what ships will be in the next wave?

By Icedragon, in X-Wing

The HWK was way out of left field. It really makes it harder to guess at what might come next.

The Tie Defender is a decent guess and kind of a fan favorite.

The Z95 is also a solid guess. Cheaper, weaker X-wing that can carry a missle. It would serve several purposes. Swarms, filler, missle carrier.

After that, all bets are off at this point. They aren't afraid to add lesser known ships. They aren't afraid to mix up the large vs small ship numbers.

Curious, and perhaps this is better severed in a different thread.

If as you as Z95 is a solid guess that is "cheaper, weaker [...] swarms, missile carrier, etc...

Is that giving the Rebels their own version of the Tie Fighters? Isn't that giving both sides had nearly identical craft that simply looked different?

And if so, the actual questions......

Would that radically change the meta (I wish I fully knew what that meant, haha)

AND

Does it push the game even closer to Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) or (RPSLS). and where the fun in that?

I would be great to see some of the updated versions of the x-wings (XJ3, XJ5, XJ6 XJ7), maybe with some udpated stats, more agile, more shields, more upgrade options. Or course with some updated, and subtly different models.

Even the StealthX would be cool.

The XJ series boasted increased shield capacity, better maneuverability, and a higher sublight acceleration. The starfighter's weapons carried an increased charge and better targeting computers, making the craft a formidable enemy of the foes of the New Republic. Additionally, a third proton torpedo launcher was added to up the fighter's payload to 9 torpedoes total.

At some point i'd like to see large expansion or maybe a version 2 of the game with prequel era ships.

I'd be interested in a mix of obsolete, cheap ships (Z-95, V-Wing, Jedi interceptor) and newer, expensive ships (TIE Defender).

One or two more larger ships would be cool, too. I think those recommendations have all already been made.

Ultimately, it would be fun to see another game entirely taking place on more of a capital ship scale. I used to really enjoy games like Full Thrust or Firestorm Armada, but the mechanics of X-Wing are so much cleaner! But that's an entirely different conversation.

I think the hardest part about adding more ships is the logistics.

Size limits most ships additions.
only 16 movement choices allowed on a dial.
3 attack
3 defense
balance on shields and hull without invalidating other ships.

How many 2atk/2def, 3atk/3def ships or combination thereof can they add without it feeling the same or invalidating other ships? At some point they need to just add a Hutt/mercenary/bounty hunter faction.

So anyway my guess is the next "wave" are two card enhancement packs (rebel and imperial) to allow the miniature manufacturer enough time to catch up to demand.

(GUESS)Part of this card enhancement pack will include a y wing upgrade to allow a 2 seater Y-wing. My guess it will just be an appropriately priced BTL-S3 Y wing card that uses the same Y-wing model and allows 1 crew and adds an Elite skill pilot. Simply because the designer said he was trying to figure out a way to add a crew to the Y-wing.

After that card pack expansion they will probably put out a true wave 4 expansion with 4 ships adding proton rockets, ion torpedoes and tractor beams.
1 cheap 12-14 point rebel ship with a missile upgrade=z-95 headhunter
1 large base rebel support ship w a leia organa crew card, c3p0 crew card, Dash Rendar pilot card= YT2400 aka outrider

1 imperial strike fighter=tie defender, tie phantom, etc
1 imperial ship w tractor beam upgrade= Assault gunboat, Missile gunboat, etc

Beyond that if the game stays popular I think they should focus on a scenario pack upgrade with gun turret models used for death star runs and cruiser bombing runs. Get a little more outside the box and add a campaign mode of play for larger 200 point battles and multiple game campaigns. Also release a third faction with 4 exclusive bounty hunter ships and a card pack with pilots for several prereleased ships such as the yt2400, firespray, yt1300, hwk290.

the 3rd faction is the most intriuging to me.

the z95 fits this mold as mercs, pirates, and smuggler fleets all used them, as they were cheap and abundant.

that being said, the cloak shape fighter, virago, and bounty hunter specific ships. if we dip into the EU even more, boba has a slave 2 ship, IG200, Hounds tooth,

since as was mentioned earlier in this thread, all the movie ships of the 2 factions are out there now.......wait, rebel transports!!! its a little big, but i can imagine some cool scenario based games with one of those ships. (ok get back on topic dude) after this wave the nest wave of ships all belonging to a new faction would be great, but like the miniatures game from WOTC have this 3rd fation playable on its own or in combination with the existing factions.
