Info for creating stats for custom ships

By Bulwark, in X-Wing

Wookieepedia has detailed info on most of the ships in the Star Wars universe. One of the interesting bits of data is the shield and hull ratings. Shields are listed in units of SBDs and hull is rated in units of RUs. I have no idea what these mean, but they can be used to help figure out what hull and shield ratings your custom ships should have in X-Wing.

The following table is based on the values in Wookieepedia (and a few other sources where the wookiees didn't know the value). Like most things in star wars, some sources have conflicting values. Also, it looks like FFG modified some of the ships (TIEs and B-wings for example) for game balance and playability.

Ship shield hull

SBD FFG RU FFG
x-wing 50 2 20 3
y-wing 75 3 40 5
a-wing 50 2 15 2
b-wing 125 5 60 3
TIE 0 0 15 3
TIE advanced 40 2 14 3
TIE interceptor 0 0 16 3
TIE bomber 0 0 50 6
HWK-290 124 1 68 4
YT-1300 120 4 76 6
Falcon 264 5 102 8
Firespray 106 4 62 6
Lambda 100 5 66 5

Using this, you can estimate that you get 1 shield for every 25 SBD and 1 hull for every 10 RU. Shields seem to stick much closer to the 1:25 ratio than Hulls do to the 1:10.

In the end, use your best judgement and pick values that feel right without being too overpowered.

For those interested, the CR-90 Corellian Blockade Runner has about 16 shield and 20 hull. Don't use these values unless you want a long boring game. :)

I like treating the hard points on the CR-90 like you might individual ships. The main difference is that the shields can regenerate as long as the shield generator hard point is active (not destroyed).

By going that route you now (all of the sudden) have tactical considerations/choices that you didn't have before. If you have 16 shield and 20 hull or even half that 8 and 10. Your only choice is shoot at the ship until shields are down. Doesn't matter where, angle, just shoot, hope and roll.

But... What if you could target individually shielded hard points. Do you go for the engines or bridge for a mission win? Do you focus on the weapons leaving it defenseless to pick off. How about concentrating your weapons on the Shield Generators so when you attack the hard points they cannot regenerate shields; but now you're getting shot at in the process...

Decisions, decisions... better game play

I don't know who wrote these but it is an interesting start: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/87313/new-templates-for-star-destroyer-with-updated-card
