Starfield Tile Kit

Fine by me if folks want to spend their money on this, I guess I just wish FFG products were a little more practical. Effort spent here could have been spent on producing a scenario booklet or pilot pack cards.

Who's to say they aren't later?

I hope they do. Scenario books, missions, pilot cards. I have my fingers crossed.

I also like the idea of something that will be produced directly by FFG. I may have missed something and if I did anyone feel free to correct me, but I would think that being produced by FFG would increase the likelihood of these being tournament legal.

The day that FFG declares a playing surface not acceptable beacuse it is not FFG produced is the day I chunk this stuff in the garbage and never buy another product from FFG.

I'm rather disappointed in FFG for their lack of scenario support either in booklet form or public release in pdf. Centralizing all the focus of this game on tournament style play is a mistake IMHO.

Ditto. There is so much you can do with this game.

The only reason i could think of that would even remotely relate to this is that someone shows up with their homemade playmat. The only problem with their homemade playmat is that they have hidden within the backdrop of their scenery, hash markers and other things to help them gauge distances better to avoid ship collisions, asteroids, running off the map and the like.

I would like to think that people would not cheat on this level, but if i was FFG...running a tournament...giving away cash and prizes...i'm sorry but i might be hesitant to allow "homemade" playmats given the circumstance.

I've never considered that, but you make a good point.

And now there are a bunch of people out there measuring the distance between all the stars on their starmats....

I don't find $25 for the variance offered by the tiles to be a big deal and worth the cost in my opinion.

The product page for the Starfield Tile Kit lists it as costing, not $25, but as $39.95. Check it out here:

Given a large majority of us tend to order our products online, they will not be purchased at retail price. Both Miniaturemarket and CoolStuffInc. (along with others I'm sure) will be selling it at below MSRP. MM and CSI both list preorders at $25.99.

All that I am saying as a very space perceptive player having exact 1ft measurement lines is a huge advantage. One of the best games I have ever had was against a guy who had a custom map made that had the deployment lines super imposed on the map (1 deploy and 2 range box for asteroids) which made maneuvering a breeze by being able to more than just eyeball movements. It just like being able to lay templates on the board.
