which ties are the best and is there somewhere to see the stats and abilites of all the ships

It depends on what you want to do, but I think TIE Interceptors are the best. You can see the stats and info to make a list at: http://x-wing.voidstate.com/build

I, on the other hand, prefer quantity over quality - at 100 points, you can have 8 TIE Fighters or 5 Interceptors. Some people prefer a mixture of the two types. Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced is also not to be underestimated.

I think having between 5 and 8 Tie-LN, 3 and 5 Tie-IN, and 1 or 2 Tie-ADV makes for a good fleet of tie based ships. I personally love Vader, Soontir, Turr, and Howlrunner but most of the pilots you get make a good mix with lots of cool potential lists.

Really everyone has potential and I think you will find that a list that is comprised entirely of ships and pilots you think are cool will still do decently. Well maybe not a list with very many Tie-ADV but really just stay away from the generic pilots.

The upgrade cards are going to be a bit of a problem if you only collect Imperial ships. Push The Limit only comes with A-Wings. The Stealth, Engine and Shield upgrades only come with the larger ships. If you're not too particular about actually owning the cards you use, you might be able to find pictures of what you need and print them out for use. Otherwise, it could be "hello, Rebel ships". I think a Firespray would be a nice addition to your Imperial Fleet regardless. It can be used in your squads, gives you some good missile upgrades, Veteran Instincts and the Stealth upgrade.

And, as other people have posted, if you want some of the upgrade cards you'll need to get the rebel ships. Not a bad thing IMO because it'll give you enough to play with friends and family.
