Is the Prophetess still broken?

By Caliban, in Talisman

The Prophetess has always seemed like a broken character to us but I hadn't had a chance to play her in 4th ed Revised yet. In a game against the Sorceress and the Assassin, I dominated so completely with the Prophetess that the other two didn't even leave the Outer Region before I was on the COC. Have all of you found the prophetess to still be the uber character?

I can't say that the Prophetess is too powerfull.

Yesterday i have played with her, and won the game with luck against the Elf.

I started the game with some bad turns, but after that, i came back, and score some craft and strength points.

The assassin is also very powerful.

Prophetess has correct wording now and I don't find her to be overpowerful. It wasn't in BI 4th edition with errata. Still she can get stuck with Spells, gain no benefit from knowing others' Spells and draw two bad cards in a row. There are many creatures in the deck and she has to fear most of them and in big games the Prophetess is an easy target for brute Characters. Still she's excellent in a 2/3 player game.

This is pure speculation. If you're lucky, you win the game with every Character against every opponent. My games are mostly dominated by Strength Characters, except when I have one of them, of course.

Yesterday,i was also stuck with some spells. I have only cast 1 spell in the whole game. Maybe i must use the spell with the stormcrow on a low spirit creature instead of attacking it myself. Then i can discard the spell card and draw another one preocupado.gif

I agree about the assassin. he is one of my favorites.

I agree with you that she is more balanced now and not overly powerful. It never fails though that anyone who isn't the Prophetess in our games complain that she is the "easy mode" character or some such. I thought I would solicit a general opinion before I tell my players to stop whining.. llorando.gif

I will use this post for this question.

The Prophetess has been worded correctly now and everything looked clear, but...

Whenever you have to draw Adventure Cards, you may discard one card of your choice that you do not wish to encounter and draw one more card to replace it, which you must encounter.

What about Draw 2 Cards and Draw 3 Cards spaces? According to the text above, you draw all required cards and choose one card you want to discard. This is not what I used to do in Black Industries 4th edition. A Draw 2 card space was handled in the following way: draw first card and choose if accept or replace it. If you accept it, you must encounter it but you may choose to keep or replace the second card you draw. If you replace first card, you must draw two cards and encounter them both.

Prophetess power should not improve on a Draw 2 Card Space!

I like it as it is demonio.gif

It's the same as Orb of knowledge gran_risa.gif

You draw 2 cards and choise which one you want discard, you must meet the other one + the new drawed card(it was said in some other topic im trying to find it)

Prophetess changed from older version and is now more balanced, it is a very strong character surely but can fight only on strenght and start from 2 + have no high fate so it is hard for her in begin of game. powerful but not overpowered in my opinion

Maybe I've lost that Orb of Knowledge thread, or lost its sense (I recall so much Talking about Prophetess + Fiend Slayer). I don't like it very much, there's no reason why the Prophetess should be more powerful on a Draw 2 cards space. Anyway, the Character is not overpowered and usually gets slain if there are 4+ Characters in play (my experience).
