Okay...so why so many different colors for my imps?! it is just different from my uniformity perspective to have all my imps on the board...and my TIE-I's a different color! Why are the TIE-Is a blue-grey while the TIE-F a nice light-grey and will the new Bombers be a nice feldgrau?! Vielen Danke....
50 Shades of Grey
Heheheh
Well...I believe it is something like this - they originally used the grey plastic for the Tie/a (advanced) and the Tie/ln (basic). Then for some inexplicable reason they decided they needed to use the bluish-grey plastic for All tie fighters, so for the reprints of Wave 1 - the new ships have the bluish plastic. Maybe it's stronger or holds it's shape better in temperatures or something like that. *shrug*
Of course I could be wrong about it. This is what i've heard from 1 guy, and he is no expert on FFG.
It's not just FFG's X-wing. All Star Wars related minis, from Micro-Machines to the other Mini's game out there. The Interceptors and Bombers for some odd reason were that blue hue color.
I believe even the Interceptors in the films may also be that blueish color, though I could be wrong about that?
Watch episodes 4,5, and 6 again. The empire painted the Tie's (at least the interceptors and the bombers if I remember correctly) a more blue-ish color in the later part of the war. If anything, you now have another reason to watch Star Wars! Not that reasons are needed.
For the longest time, I always thought all Ties were grey. I think it is because as a kid, the Battle of Yavin scene stood out more. Plus I played the X-Wing games a lot and all of the Ties are grey.
When I found out that the various Ties were blue, I went and watched eps 4, 5, and 6 again. If you pay close attention, you'll notice that in eps 5 and 6, all of the Ties are blue, not grey. I think I read somewhere that originally they were suppose to be blue but they were changed to grey because of blue screening. But then they were able to get around it so they switched back to blue.
It really bugs me though when some of the toys are released in one colour and some are released in the other.
Personally, I really wish that FFG will release grey versions of Tie Interceptors and Tie Bombers as I really don't like the blue versions and I'm too afraid/lazy to repaint them myself.
Edited by Redeemer31I too noticed the difference in the color of the pieces when I got my first Tie Interceptor. I just chalked it up to a mismatch of color between waves. But, now it appears I need to go back and watch Episodes IV - VI again. I'll be watching it from a perspective of this game, so I'll be paying a lot more attention to the ships. I even heard rumor that there is a modified P-49 and possibly some other WW II aircraft in some of the larger battles if you pay close attention to the background ships (Not sure if that is in these episodes or the others). And like Sprolly G said, I shouldn't even need this excuse to go back and watch these movies!
Vielen Danke....so I am not losing my mind....thanks, und cheers!
So the grand question here is if you are going to repaint the ships what colours do you use? I'm considering repainting them in the the blue gray but I'm torn.
Even the Empire repainted them all before the battle of Yavin! Every military occaisionally changes its painting regs ~,~
The models used in the movie formerly known as Star Wars were originally painted a blueish grey. Then they discovered this created problems during the blue screen work, and they all had to be repainted grey.
I've dry-brushed all my ships with Russsian Topside Blue.
