Bounty Hunters Guild Timeline

By Sinosaur, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So, the EotE setting is after ANH but apparently sometime before ESB, based on the fact that Alderaan is destroyed (not entirely what locks it before ESB). The book also spends a good section talking about the Bounty Hunter's Guild and all of its houses, but in the EU the Bounty Hunters Guild doesn't exist after 0 ABY thanks to the Bounty Hunter Wars.

Does this mean that essentially the basic setting is literally months away (at most) from the end of the Bounty Hunters Guild or were the designers ignoring that bit of canon? It very specifically doesn't exist by the time ESB rolls around.

Obviously this could lead to some interesting RP if the party were part of the Guild when the Bounty Hunter Wars start, but there's no mention in the core book.

A simple reason could be that EU is not officially canon.

EotE covers a lot of stuff from the EU (by which I mean it would have at least half the content if it could only pull from the movies and TV shows). When I read the Bounty Hunters Wars books, I hadn't even heard of the Bounty Hunters Guild before that, so the Guild is EU already (not being mentioned in the movies).

I remember getting West End Games' Bounty Hunters sourcebook, which detailed all the different bounty hunter guilds. Then some time later the BH novels came out and basically screwed with the sourcebook material. I just chose to ignore the novels in my campaign and leave the guilds as they were, since they were already an established part of my campaign.

I really haven't tried to keep up with a lot of the EU stuff. I enjoyed the WEG development of the setting and the Thrawn trilogy, but I wasn't much impressed with most of the books after that. I'll use ships, planets, and other setting material from the EU if I like it, but I basically ignore the storylines and all but a few characters...and IMGFFA, the bounty hunter guilds remain after 0 ABY.

Yeah, if anything EotE pulls a lot of EU material from the WEGs, which had established the Bounty Hunter guilds at that point. WEG even had a IPKC card that you could photocopy and put your own picture on!

If I recall correctly from the design journals, EotE is after the Clone Wars, but before Episode IV, but that could have changed.

I think if you're roughly in the right era, you can't go too far wrong.

I never played the WEG game so I was unaware of this. Did it portray a large assortment of guilds or one giant guild? Because the concept of smaller guilds is still quite cool to me, but the monolithic guild doesn't really appeal to me. The book talks about the giant guild.

In the section about the galaxy, the Alderaan entry talks about it in past tense, brings up its destruction, and talks about how the remains are called the Graveyard, so it's quite clearly post Episode IV.

Maybe THE Bounty Hutners' Guild in its original(ish) form ceases to be after A New Hope. But it doesn't mean that A Bounty Hunters' Guild doesn't exist.

Look at the fragmentation of organizations, religions, cultures, nations, etc in our own world.

Three Bounty Hunters walk into the Mos Eisley cantina. One is an ex member of the now defunct Bounty Hunter's Guild acting alone. One is a member of the Arkanis Bounty Hunters' Guild. The last one is a member of the Guild of Bounty Hunters. They all are looking for Han Solo. Which one fires first?

HAN SOLO!!!! HAN M----- -----ING SOLO SHOOTS -----ING FIRST!!!!!!! ARRRRGHHH!!!!!

The Bounty Hunter wars occur during 4ABY and follow Boba Fett after he escapes from the Sarlac.

The story is told partially in 'current' setting after Boba Fett escapes the Sarlacc, and partially in flashback. The flashback sections are his actions leading to the destruction of the Bounty Hunter Guild.

Some of the books I really don't care for. As the GM i was happy to change some things.

Player: Do you enjoy watching podracing?

Annatta: BAH! Pod racing?! That stupid stuff was declining during the clone wars. All those little tiny repulsor sleds with big fracking engines going "BLA-BLA-BLA" and "BROM-BROM-BROM" and everyone getting into a wreck before the finish line. BAH!. Now swoop racing? Swoop racing is awesome, little craft with BIG HONKING ENGINES! and not much else. heeeeeeey, i got a slightly used old racing swoop for sale? you want to buy it?
