Next Force Set?

By FiendishDevil, in Star Wars: The Card Game

One of the few things I liked about SWG was how it showed us what's going on with Naboo during the Galactic Civil War. I would be eager to explore a bit of this in the game, though I'm not confident there would be enough to develop an entire cycle around. Not in this era, anyway.

I woulden't mind a political cycle, imperial city start of the rebellion shadow opps stuff like that could be very fun

Yeah, that is something I would be 100% onboard with. Especially if it gives us an opportunity to see the Senate Chamber, IMO the coolest thing in the prequels by far. I could see that being good imagery for an objective.

Maybe they'll surprise us with Rebellion era look at Naboo sector ;)

Oh my goodness, I would love this! Moff Panaka! Queen Apailana's last stand against the Empire! Senator Pooja! Yay!

I could see a cycle that included more material from A New Hope and it's corresponding EU material.

Something where Scum and Smugglers could be fleshed out with characters and events in Mos Eisley, with some Jedi and Sith incorporated from the larger Tatooine location as a background.

And then Navy and Rebels could be fleshed out from the assault on the Death Star, with again, some accompanying Jedi and Sith objectives.

Has there been nothing on this from GenCon yet?

Why does everyone think the entire cycle needs to be based in one place?

it doesn't have to be, but if you look at nearly every card game ever made, they release sets with a common theme. also, obviously, even though we are finishing out the hoth cycle, you may have noticed that half the sets aren't even based on hoth, and have nothing to do with hoth. the overriding theme can be anything, or anywhere, and there will still be plenty of other sets not associated with it.

again, Endor cycle here we come! (with tatooine as a secondary guess)

Ive noticed Scum and villiany and jedi both have 0 hoth objectives.... while the other 2 factions have gotten a few (I still think Vaders command was meant to be Hoth lol) from just looking at what I can see, they are going to theme it around a planet and then there will be 1 faction on both sides that will not receive any cards with that location name. This is just a hunch however lol. tatooine will probable be jedi, spies, navy, scum

I hope whatever it is that there's plenty of Wookiees

and Kowakian Monkey Lizards for DS!

Space theme would be cool. Like asteroids and stuff :)

I'd enjoy a Shadows of the Empire cycle... bring in Xizor and the Black Sun!!!

I think there's a fair chance the limit one Scum pod in Balance of the Force will bring us Xizor. (Ditto for Thrawn in the Navy pod.)

I think that the next cycle will be more of a theme cycle. In relation to the Prequels I have a feeling that we will get them because nothing about the game would break by adding this to the game. I mean yes some fanboys would sulk but you know what its all star wars.

Some of it is bad some of it is amazing but it is all Star Wars and that is what we want to play.

If you want to be a purist go nuts. But I would be surprised if they snubbed all those fans of the clone wars series by not taking advantage of a very cool thing (one objective set per episode.)

Dear god how cool would it be to get pod with Maul and Mandolorians with his light saber and an "add one to your total for balance of the force" Fate card.

I mean please tell me you wouldn't want to have a pod based on the many great episodes that were in the show.

That is not just one cycle that is years worth of cards

Then we have the thrawn trilogy cycle.

Rouge Squadron Cycle

I just really don't think we're going to see prequels stuff. at least not for quite awhile. Everything that fantasy flight is doing with star wars right now has been limited to episode four or later.

I would guess Endor. We are missing or very light on several themes around Endor to mine from: Endor ground troops/walkers, Ewoks, B-Wings, Interceptors, Shield Generator, Throne room confrontation, Rebel versions of Han/Lando, etc. Starfighter builds are a little under-represented for both sides (in contrast with LS speeders or DS capital ships), and Endor could include a lot of that.

Of the major locations in the movies, we have the following:

Tatooine - We have Jawas and Luke, not much material other than the cantina or Beru/Owen

Death Star - some sets already for detention and space battle

Yavin - some space battle sets, and a support sets for the temple and base

Hoth - Cycle already

Dagobah - Represented in several Jedi pods already

Cloud City - Heavy in Edge of Darkness

Tatooine - Heavy in Edge of Darkness

Endor / DS II - the biggest location and conflict in the trilogy, and we only have the Endor walker pod, limit 1 Ewok pod, Mon Mothma, and Ackbar currently

Do we know if FFG's license includes prequel era stuff? I imagine so, as we have a Jimmy Smits card and a background Gungan.

I honestly wouldn't mind prequel or Clone Wars things (especially things like Death Watch, Mace Windu, Destroyer Droids, etc). I like the setting, characters, and lore, regardless of the poor quality of the movies themselves. If and when we see prequel stuff, I imagine these would come with new affiliations (Old Republic - troopers/senate/Jedi; Separatists - Droids/Commanders/Sith) with a few pods that fit into current affiliations to help enforce theme. A similar approach would make sense if they tie in the new movies in 2015 to the game, as it would be really weird to see the a gap of several decades within the same affiliation and deck. I think the Rebels tv show that is coming in Fall 2014 would be really good source of new material that fits the current affiliations and time table as well (just before A New Hope).

I wouldn't mind seeing prequel trilogy and prequel EU stuff. Honestly, I would love to have neutral light side Gungans to give me some more Shield-based theme deck options.

Sith Darth Maul. Neutral Grievous and Separatist units. Sith Ventress. Sith Dooku. Jedi Qui Gon. Jedi Samuel L. Jackson. Neutral Padme/Senators. Lightside Jedi/Neutral Clone Troopers. Sith Order 66 Clone Troopers with perhaps a "switch side" mechanic. S&V Cad Bane. S&V Jango. S&S Watto. More S&S and neutral Wookies! There's alot of material to pull. R2D2 could even get a Jetpack enhancement

Prequel stuff would really help buff Jedi faction (which needs some help).

No we don't know. Most of what we have heard the answer is no and I suspect that to be true since Disney continues to cancel prequel stuff like the clone wars show. Jimmy Smit is who the character was based on from the movies as he was still alive right up to a New Hope when Alderaan went boom, same as in Force Unleashed which is not a prequel game and you meet him and rescue him. Gungans are still around after the prequels and later so no surprise there either.

I think that it would be in Fantasy Flight's best interest (business-wise, since the game is still in it's infancy) would be to take a force cycle from a movie, of episode 4,5 or 6. The locations in the films that seem to leave alot to draw upon would be Tatooine and Endor and maybe Cloud City but, unfortunately I doubt it will be Cloud City.

Although we have much taken from the beginning of Episode 4 already and there is hardly any left of Cloud City since Edge of Darkness had shown us all the major players (Lando, Lobot, Bossk, Slave 1 etc..), I would hazard a guess that we will see Endor, which could provide a cool theme with what we have seen with Ewoks already, setting traps and throwing much chaos into the fray. A little like Scum is about capture, Ewoks could be about screwing with opponents draw deck with booby traps and the like.

Another reason we could possibly see Endor would be that if we look at the construction of the release of the Hoth cycle, it chronologically follows the beginning of Empire:

The Desolation Of Hoth

The Search For Skywalker

A Dark Time

Assault On Echo Base

The Battle of Hoth

Escape From Hoth

I could see that being mirrored with Endor with timeline like:

Arrival of Rebels on Endor

Rebels meet with ewoks and prepare to attack the bunker

Luke goes to to hang with the emperor and Vader and generally shoot the s^&t.

Ewok attack on the Imperials

Temptation of Luke by Palpatine and Vader

Attack on the Death Star II by lando and subsequent destruction

Things we could end up seeing.

Lambda class shuttle(s)

The Executor Star Destroyer

-we have two locations for it to protect in the core already: Counsel of the Sith and Fall of the Jedi

Interdictor class (with gravity wells on them to maybe add focus on fighters) Star Destroyers.

B wing group- Blue Squadron

A wing group- green Squadron

New navy fighters as in Tie Interceptors

-new squadron, similar to Black squadron in the Core Set

Endor troopers, scout bikers and speeder bikes.

There is so much that can be done, it makes me want to design my own dream cards.

Not long to go before a new cycle is released, so time will tell.

the executor was spoiled many months ago, it's in the final hoth set.

That would be awesome. Having senate, Wookie, and Grievous-related pods be neutral would make sense. Chewie's pod makes sense as S&S, since he has a life-debt to Han, and must forever ride shotgun in his space Camaro. But, the Wookies in general should not be S&S.

I could even see a Senate pod being Sith-aligned. But it'd be dark side definitely; I mean, not one thing happens in the Senate chamber (during the prequels, at least) that furthers the cause of the light side of the Force.

"What if I told you that the Republic was now under the control of a Dark Lord of the Sith?" - Count Dooku

I think this is why I don't see the Endor cycle coming so soon - because it would be almost exactly the same as Hoth, but starting with the Imperials establishing their base.

I kinda like the idea of a Rogue Squadron cycle, but that would of course be Rebel-heavy, so unless we got Isard (father and daughter) and the like, Booster Terrik and so on, I don't know if it would be feasible. Hopefully it won't be too long before we get to find out, anyway!

I wonder if there will be any interaction between Executor objectives and the Executor, which does not itself have the Executor keyword.
