UFS Tier List

By Viewtiful_Joe, in UFS General Discussion

I've been thinking recently, as to whether it is possible to think up a real Tier list for UFS characters in Block 3. I mean, there are characters who clearly have an edge over other characvters, due to general consesus (Donovan, Chun-Li etc), but are there too many possibilities to create one thats even remotely accurate? In the UK and the US, we've had some very unexpected characters winning Regionals and other large tournaments (such as Vega winning one of the UK's Regionals, Gill winning one in the US, and Fio recently taking my Ladder League Finale tournament, which consisted of around 20 players) I figure that if it's truly not possible to think of one, that the balancing of this game is in fact, very well thought out. I would see this as proof of how balanced

Do you think a UFS Tier list is a possibility? If so, where would you rank certain characters? Even as I write this thread, I struggle to think of a suitable list, but I can imagine the SS and S tiers looking quite easy to see. I would place:

SSS: Rikuo: ( gran_risa.gif )

SS: Chun-Li::::., Donovan:., Akuma:::, Zi Mei., Hanzo:., Kyoshiro:?

S: Ibuki::, Alex:., Seong Mina:., Sakura::, Mai::., Andrew Olexa, Sophitia::

These are literally just off the top of my head, I'm sure there'll be many a disagreement and many more to go on the list, but then, that only proves that the game is indeed balanced, doesn't it? gui%C3%B1o.gif

A great topic always nice to hear everyones opinion on this sort of thing . On topic we will be joined by Shaneth and Tucker to discuss this topic on wendsday. As for my guys an gals I like Alex, Zi Mei , Donovan (AKA any character with order) , Akuma fire/evil and of course chun li.

oh come on you know rikuo is is ssss rank its geki which is sss lol

Instead of complicating things with tons of S's, can we just have A, B, C, D, E?

Tiers are crap more in UFS than in fighting games. It's all about the deck, baby.

Agreed.

But if you ARE going to use the S ranking system...

SSStylish ;D

We always just refer to them as Tier 1, 2, 3 etc...

Sometimes youve got that char who is top tier worthy but theres just someone better at like 1.5 and stuff

A bunch of S's though would get confusing, also you cant go any lower if you start at S and go up, thats why you go down, like S or 1 being the highest and then SS/A/2 being next and so on

Nah the numbered Tier list makes most sense, but the S system is funny too bad there aren't a DMC fanset yet.

But in my eyes all characters with Air are auto-top-tier, such as Raph :: or Soiree! m/ >.< m/

I'm loving how people are more focused on how I've written the tiers themselves rather than the characters in them..... Just use whatever you want, SS, S, A, B, 1,2,3,4, Top, High, Medium etc, we're supposed to be talking about the power level of characters in UFS and how much the degree of your character affects your deck, not my bad choice of lettering. :|

well the top tier right there HAS to be tied with Raph :: so let's have them throwdown; Rikuo** vs. Raph ::

but in all honesty, I don't exactly rate a character by the combos that can be done, but just by the abilities they carry... such as Raph ::
Rikuo** just is a god among benchwarmers, he will eventually have a true purpose other than the symbols he bears.

Order character with 7+ handsize = top tier at the moment.

Evil and Death appear to be getting a boost in the next set, though. And you can never count out Air or Water.

I'm actually kinda hoping that if the game does begin to gain more aggro pieces for its swing in momentum, Earth will get some good bits. I like Earth =P

Though the return of retarded Life aggro would be immensely welcome by me.

just as long that swing forward for aggro will be done by Astaroth lol

I can't stand the death and/or evil but order is cool even if lots of lockdowns happen too often xP
order characters with 7+ hs... I think of Q but who else would that be?

Honestly the characters are just the face of the deck. Really I would tier the symbols before characters. Order, air top Evil, All Middle and everything else just dosnt matter, although water gets honerable mention for its supper looping annoying rejection crap.

I agree, it is much more usefull to tier symbols rather than character. But, I would put water higher the list, because it has more than just the looping that tannerface mentioned. It also has gotten some control power thanks to chester's, chinesse boxing, and program malfunction.

Life can kill T1 if the opponent is an idiot.

Tiering symbols in most cases is pointless because multi-symbol decks are so easy to build and powerful. While you can tier symbols theres always a best character at each symbol

I agree with Everything Tanner said except Water getting a honorable mention( I think Water is better then Evil/All atm)and I would give the honorable mention to the often splashed Chaos symbol.

If you want to rank Chars it is difficult to seperate them from their symbols, Alex would be the best deck in the game if he had order. If you dont believe put together a solid order deck and change whoever your fronting it with to Alex and watch the insanity ensue,

I think you either have to rank symbols individually and ignore the ability to split symbol since the benefits are offset by disadvantages that come alongside splitting or you need to rank Decktypes like Chun-Li Spike or Donovan Order Aggro, being specific about the char AND what the deck does.

So then after this debate; What is the top symbol? On which characters? For what kind of build?

are those suitable questions to be put in order?

Tier lists for characters, symbols, or what have you in UFS is a bad idea in my eyes. There are too many variables and none of these things live in a void. A character is only as stong as the deck they have with them which is only as strong as the card pool, which is symbol dependent, which is character dependent...

It takes too many things to make a deck good to just boil it down to "This is better than this which is better than this". Its just way to subjective a question as well. At the best I think you can judge at any given time if a character had the potental to be tournament caliber or not, but that can literally swing from top to bottom with the release of one card, so its kind of a fruitless venture.

Water better than Evil?

What?

No, god no.

Water is my best symbol, but as a realist I can tell you that no defense from Olcadon's Mentoring eats you alive if you get a slow start.

tier 1 chun-li, donovan, alex(promo), kyoshiro, andrew olexa

tier 2 akuma, ibuki, gill, gen, sakura, seong mina, setsuka, jivatma, hugo, and i am sure i'm missing some.

tier 3 everyone else

tier 4 chars with 5 handsize and no ability.

I've been playing tanner's gill deck after the michigan regionals to figure out how to beat the deck and have some more deckstyles to test against, and I can count the number of times I've lost a game on 1 single hand. Tanner is correct Gill is very strong just on the pure fact that He is an 8 handsize order character and can just out develop other other characters very easily and is very consistant.
