What I have noticed is that the d2 heroes have a much higher grade of sculpting to them. What I would like to see is all the d1 heroes redone with this detail. I have been looking to proxy them but haven't really seen a model for Ispher, or steelhorns that I like. Help ffg keep this game awesome.
Rehash d1 heroes
Agreed. My group is shying away from the gen 1 heroes due to their inferior minis.
(And I want Lyssa retconed... I'm still mad she's a mage now.)
I hope one day they package all that up together so I can buy them. But there done badly? Monsters too?
The heroes don't have nearly the level of detail of the new ones and they can look featureless and blobish. The monsters are nice enough though. I think the problem is that the 10 new heroes I own are over such a high calibre, the older ones just look bad now.
Some of the characters didn't translate well either. Quick fighters are now mages. Some mages became healers. There's one poor orc named One-Fist who's a Warrior now, but he only has one hand. Good luck with that starting equipment, dude.
you're making beautifull dreams, but unhappening ones.
This will never happens, since this would be to much work and money loss, and the figures would be really not so cheap, so what for ?
Even if I too think some D1 minis are awfull (specialy Red scorpion) and some monsters (giants, demon who don't look the same as the artwork)
but forget it, you're deceiving yourself !
Personally, although I agree the original figures aren't as nice as later ones, they're not bad by any stretch of the imagination (I've seen tons way worse from GW), and look fantastic with a well done paint job. Besides as someone else said, it would be way too expensive to do new ones (The steel molds required cost many thousands of dollars).
Edited by BatHeadPerhaps a premium set, as with Arkham Horror. Expensive, but nice for those who want them. Beats paying $10+ on ebay for one character.

A re-release of the 1E minis in a new package designed for 2E is within the realm of possibility. Perhaps even pre-paints, if you're lucky. But they will definitely not be new molds with higher detail. They will be the same molds, or they won't happen at all.
The Conversion Kit was released as a hook to entice players who already owned 1E into buying 2E. It was not intended to be a full and proper expansion in its own right - it was a gimmick to maintain existing customers. With enough demand, FFG might be willing to dust off the molds they already have (which have already paid for themselves across D1E, Runebound, and Runewars) and make a ne wpirnt run of old minis. However, I doubt they're going to pay to make new molds just to increase the level of detail.
As Batsy pointed out, it costs thousands to make a new mold. There are 40-odd hero minis from 1E. Even if it was one thousand dollars per mold, that's $40,000+ up front, just for the heroes! Realistically, probably more like 100,000 or 200,000. Why spend that money when you already have existing molds that are essentially free at this point? And this is all assuming FFG is even interested in entertaining the idea of reprinting 1E heroes at all.

To improve the product? To sell to people who already possess the inferior models? To draw interest to another game, as they've done with Dungeon Quest? I think anything is in the realm of possibility.
I presume that I do lack some aesthetical taste, but I made my own stand ups (not just flat tokens) for E1 heroes and monsters.
Playing with cardboard pieces works quite well.
And it allows me to play with the full range of monsters and heroes, without delay or hopes about a new production of the OOP figures.
I presume that being a board wargamer, and thus used to play with cardboard, helps me overcome the "need" to play with figures...
The fact that Descent is not the only game I play and that my money ressources are limited also would lead me not to buy a reproduced series of E1 figures.
YMMV

FFG having to spend many thousands of dollars for new figure molds is just not going to happen. It's simply not cost effective and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Besides, the original figures aren't that horrible that they need re-done.
Edited by BatHeadJust went to an FLGS and picked up a dated reaper catalog and hope to post my recommendations for replacement figs but I have to retread the forum rules to see if posting another co. Products violates anything. On a happier note got my first 6 2e figs done now to put them on decorative bases and post pics.

Well I have warhammer stuff too but....still I just can't do it.
@robin glad you can do that wish I could i just can't. Lol would be cheaper if i could.
Edited by SilverhelmI got lucky in that I bought a Descent v.1 bundle a few years back, and right now, I have pretty much every Descent figure made, except for the metal Lt. figures from D1 and Tobin Farslayer, so, along with the conversion kit, I have quite a load of official Descent minis I can use with the game, (if it ever happens that I actually get to play it) and I won't need to use any proxies.
If nothing else I will have all those minis to paint, that will keep me busy for a good long time.
Edited by BatHeadmy question is does the conversion kit include skill cards for the heros since those skills are the only reason the heros have won a few of the quests? i don't see any point in the first edition heros with out those.

There are no skill cards (ie: no new classes) for the 1E heroes. All those heroes are assigned an archetype and you can play any regular 2E class as appropriate.
thats kind of lame okay some basic of class would be fine but a couple of unic skills would have made it more worth it.

The point of the conversion kit wasn't meant as a full expansion; it was to provide some reason for people to keep their 1st Edition figures and not feel like FFG was just telling them to get rid of them. It was a hat tip to the old player base: an excuse to keep all that plastic on the table instead of collecting dust.
I can see that. it just would add something to it if some of the heros would have had some skills just for them. besides there heroics.
