Should FFG split waves?

By StupidPanic, in X-Wing

yeah,
So I've heard that wave 3 has been delayed...
It would seem that FFG are Making sure they have enough stock this time. This Seems sensible.

So I was thinking...
Should FFG split waves down to 2 ships and increase the frequency of waves?

Would smaller waves at more frequent intervals be better or worse for the game?

Panic...

Was the delay officially posted somewhere?

You heard this where?

Four new ships every six months is an excellent timetable. Give the game developers a break inbetween sets and time to playtest new ideas rather than rush an untested idea or product. We just need to be patient.

Time between waves is fine, it lets a solid meta form before introducing new components that change the existing meta. I just think FF needs to get their supply chain in order and neckbeards need to quit buying up 400+ expansions for each ship.

I didn't suggest more or less ships.
Just that they seem to have trouble making the quanities required to release 4 at a time.
So maybe they should have smaller waves of 2 ships.

If they did this every 3 months maybe they could manage to control their stock, as the demand spikes would be lower.
This will still change the meta.

It might make it harder to design though. Wave two had fairly obvious pairings among the four ships, gunboats and fast attack, but wave three, despite having the roles of "support" and "Long range ordnance delivery" have more overlap, the Lambda and B-wing are both less maneuverable but have stat lines that will let them function decently if not amazingly outside their designated roles, Bombers and Hwks seem to be a little more maneuverable but much more reliant on being kitted out with upgrades. Having more ships in a wave allows for more sets of parallels and contrasts. I'm comfortable waiting longer for better sets.

Yeah,
I didn't realise that it was closed, weird because anyone can join the group.
Its a fan page - not by FFG - It's got 161 members.

Screen grab.
Pretty much confirmed here in the UK.
Retailers are being given delayed release dates by our distributor...

Maybe those of us going to GenCon will get lucky, and they'll have some there anyway...

I'm happy with the current system of release. If the release is delayed then it gives me more time to get the hang of wave 2 ships, which had been harder to come by. I'd rather them delay the release so they have adequate supply instead of trying to get what they have currently out to the market and go through the trouble wave two just did. If wave 3 is as popular as wave 2 though, they may still have supply issues and unhappy customers.

Tell you what. i have been playing miniatures games since the 80's (yes, showing my age) and ive never had more than 25% of any of my stuff painted. im a strategy guy who loves to play to play, so as long as these things come painted im a happy gamer!!!!! ^_^

I've still got many combinations of Wave 1 & 2 ships to explore, so I can wait a few months. Hopefully those of you panicking won't throw in the towel and sell off your sets before we see Wave 3. Other than such a knee jerk reaction, I can't really see the delays killing the game... They'll just have us that more ready for the expansions when they do come out.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I started playing BattleTech in 1988 and have been mini-wargaming ever since. I have hundreds of unpainted BattleTech minis and hundreds of unpainted Games Workshop minis for 40K and Lord of the Rings.

battletech was my first miniatures game, played with just the cardboard cut outs (do you kids out there now what that is) then when me and my freinds could afford it we bought miniatures. man we would start a game of battletech at 9am and not finish until 4am the next day. we had 4x4 maps with aero space map off to the side. that was an epic battle. (that we never finished come to think of it) i was famous for putting infantry in buildings and getting punch hit location table shots an battlemechs i ambushed. they hated it, no one else bought infantry.

well anyway, that took me back.

FFG booth is my first stop once the doors open at 10am on the 15th. IF they have some of Wave 3, I will probably only get a shuttle and TIE Bomber, I'll pre-order the rest online.

In discussing the shortages of certain ships with a buddy, I thought maybe there are shortages because FFG is currently producing Wave 3 for a limited release at GENCON. At least I hope that is the reason.

Ditto, I literally have hundreds (or more?) of both painted and unpainted. Mostly unpainted. Star Trek, Civil War naval, WWII armor, even RPG, D&D, Dr. Who, Blood Bowl, LotR, Card Board Hero's and on and on... Also 6 FULL regiments of 40k Epic. Full!!! 2 Imperial Guard, 2 Space Marines and 2 Titian. Though 1 set of each is fully painted (by a friend) down to the Space Marine belt buckles and the bold in the Marine Sargent's head. The Titians look sweet.

That is one of the reasons I went for Star Wars X-Wing. They are already painted and good looking. If it wasn't for that I would have passed.

Has anyone thought of combining 40k epic and X-Wing for a land game? The scales are 1:270 and 1:285 so their very close.
