Eddard Stark stalwart

By Bencoates70, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi, I'm new to the game and really enjoying it so far. I have an issue with the Eddard Stark card in the core set which I'm hoping someone can help with. His ability to gain a power token when he comes into play seems excellent and some articles I've read suggest that getting him to die (and using Stalwart) is a good strategy as you get a power token when he comes back into play. But getting him to die means he loses his power tokens so don't those two things just contradict themselves? What's the point of bringing him into play more than once if I lose the power tokens on him?

You've got it right, he'll lose the power when he dies, so it's, urm, awfully hard to build a strategy around that. His power claim effect is just a small added bonus. And sometimes, one power is all you need.

Could you link to those articles you mention?

Thanks a lot for the swift reply and clarification. It seems getting him to die should be avoided at all costs then, especially if he's built up a few power tokens thanks to his renown ability.

One of the articles is http://www.gamehead.com/article/1719/game-thrones-card-game-basics

I'll try and find the other one although it may have been a forum somewhere.

I see. That's an introductory article by a person who's obviously not very deep into the game. That's not a knock on the guy, it's a neat and well-organized article and it's great that he took the time to write it. But if you want to delve deeper into the game, I recommend the articles on cardgamedb, which are written by veteran players.

I especially recommend the series called "First Tilt", which is directed at new players. Go to www.cardgamedb.com and enter "First Tilt" into the Search field to get a list of articles.

Once you're familiar with the basic rules of the game, I also recommend the series called "Quill and Tankard Regulars" which deals with rules and timing issues. Here's a list of links to all the issues . You might want to begin with the issues that come under the "Citadel Custom" heading, which give detailed play examples of the different phases of the game. That's issues 1, 5, 9, 10, 17, and 24.

Ok I'll check those out thank you. The game seems fantastic and it's great to have forums like this where people help each other out.

Many thanks, once again.
