Pirates and stolen ships

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

Does anyone know if they plan on releasing new ship tiles and cards to represent other factions of existing models.

i feel there should be a rebel version of the shuttle.

this is wave 3, why are they not releasing more models, rebel and imperial games are fun, but there are so many other factions out there, Black Sun for one, Smuggler fleets, i just think they could be releasing more models with more options

Yes, AGREED!!!

There should be pirates and not "heart of gold" pirates, but real pirates, like Hondo from Clone Wars. Black Sun, Tyber Zann's criminal network, and other bad guys also need their own ships!

There should also be unaffiliated ships that could be used by both sides, like civilian freighters and transports.

New factions will be cool, and i fully expect them. But this is Only Wave 3. There are currently 4 ships per side...that's not even close to alot of ships. Maybe when each side has about 8 i'd expect to see more factions. But only 3 waves of ships? That's not alot of minis

Excellent point, which is why the first new faction should be neutral (call it civilian or fringe) which could be included in any faction. Ships in such a faction could include the Gozanti Cruiser and other common starships used by all sides.

I don't think it would be hard to do a 'neutral' ship like the Z-95. Have a few 'usable by either faction' generic pilots, then a few named pilots particular to each of the current factions.

I love this topic, FFG please take note!

There are a ton of ships used by pirate and merc fleets that would be great in a third faction. Cloakshape fighters, z-95s, any kind of YT freighter (1300 or puhhh-lease 2400), prince xizor's virago, etc.

If image a third faction (let's call them black sun atm) would work a lot like Warmachine mercenaries, for those familiar with the tabletop game. Some ships for a third faction may be used for imps/rebs or combined into their own force.

I vote for a Chiss faction with some way to work Thrawn in there somehow. :) Wishful thinking.

I sincerely hope we start getting some "fringe," "neutral," or third faction ships. I love the Rebel vs. Empire gameplay, but I think mixing it up a bit would be a welcome addition to most gamers, including myself. It's always nice to have more options and I think the Star Wars universe above most other fictional universes, offers a tremendous opportunity to add some unique flavor to the classic galactic civil war.

I am also hoping we see more unique vessels such as The Hound's Tooth (Bossk's ship), the YT-2400, Skipray Blastboats, and perhaps even an assault gunboat, the Z-95, or even another TIE variant.

Whatever we get, I have faith that Fantasy Flight will deliver. They are at the top of my list of favorite game companies for this reason.

I on the other hand am perfectly satisfied with the rebellion and the empire. Are any of the LCG players demanding alternative factions to what is clearly a 2 player game?

I don't see the mechanical necessity of a new faction. If players want to run Rebel and Empire ships together they are perfectly capable of doing so. Would I want to see something like that in a tournament setting? Not really.

A third faction would be interesting but not something I would especially desire. I'm more interested in FFG releasing more standard Imperial fighters from the Galactic Civil War era.

I'm just getting into the game, but that's my feeling as well.

I can easily run a YT-1300 with some Y wings and call them pirates.

This also strikes me as more of a casual game, too. I don't know a lot about the Expanded Universe. I'm sure many people who pick this game up don't either. Some are just casual fans of the series (seen the movies, know some characters, recognize the ships).

I think its probably something we can look forward to in the future as the longevity of a two faction only game begins to dwindle. There are certainly still lots of options to expand both the rebels and imperials and we will see a lot more of that before other things I expect.

To be honest, as long as the game keeps expanding and stays alive, I am a happy customer.

To quote the rule book p20

"The galactic civil war

"There are two primary factions involved in the time period depicted in X-Wing: the rebel alliances, and the galactic empire. Each ship in this game box belongs to one of these two factions"

As I am on phone the important bits would be primary as in there are more than 2 but these are thr best known and "in this game box" which suggests there will be more at a point in the future.

It makes sense to start here add more ships and as a way to keep this thing going to add more factions at a later date to keep us coming back for more.

People will recognize tie fighters and x wings but other stuff from around the star wars universe a little harder to have that same cache. However now disney own it and are planning more movies I think that would make a perect tie in for new stuff.

Along with new factions and new ships for said factions. I would love to see a scenario book, maybe with a narrative campaign included. Something to keep the game fresh, and to take a break from the regular 1 vs 1 tourney style play all the time.

There are a few scenarios out there that call for third factions; pirates and Hutts. Heck our last 3 faction game had all Imperial ships in it.

You have a valid point, and i understand that there are things you have to sacrifice to make a game apeal to a larger audience and not just fan boys like myself.

I guess my bigest frustration is as fast as these miniatures become hard to get after a wave is released, why cant they release more than 4 at a time. and or have special sets, like Palpatines shuttle with 2 red interceptors as escorts.

or even better....... release the squadrons from the first death star run

1 box set for rogue squadron

1 for gold squadron

and so on through the time lines.

hell, i would even settle for just booster boxes of pilot cards and fighter cards to represent each individual pilot.

this doesnt require new miniatures, but adds more variety to your game.

the thing that pops out most in my mind, is that rebels use aliens, what about alien pilot cards that give them bonuses and/or penalties

I've been reading the Rogue Squadron novels and some pilots from there would be good to have.

yup, where is baron fel? he should be a kick butt tie pilot for the empire, then also for the new republic after he switched sides

I feel like part of what makes this game good is the focus on the core Star Wars experience, so EU ships are good as long as they fit within that. So gunboats would be awesome, Z-95s perhaps, although would they just be a Tie equivalent for cheap ships? Other factions and too much stuff could gum up the works a bit and distract from the strategic play. Maybe it's just because I'm new to miniatures games, but it really feels like there's only so much you can add before you just bury the basic elements of your game.

Thematic pilot packs and things like that would be great though. It also seems like since the ships are to scale, but the space they're flying through isn't, you could make a lot of mission-mats, like a star destroyer mapped onto a 3 or 4x4' mat.

Soontir Fel (PS 9 Interceptor) Is Baron Fel

I think that new scenarios incorporating battles on capital ships would be a better addition than a third faction, but I'd be open to either. I like the idea of anti-fighter turrets and special maps to build these scenarios. The many examples of what have already been built prove that it is feasible.

Is that not Soontir Fel, the TIE-In pilot?

No,

the letter designation after TIE, denotes the model. There were several TIE designs based on the original fighter model. I cannot remember all of them and what each one meant (not that big a geek) but they were sutle differences that in the origina RPG from West End Games, didnt cause the stat lines to change at all.

Now this i like,

but what i am really holding my breath for is a Carrack class cruiser for the empire and a correllian gunship. these 2 where small capitol ships that were designed for anti-starfighter roles. these models would probably be 8-12 inches long in this scale (im geussing) so would be great for a large space battle or a special destroy the gunship mission.

You should really check into that. I was pretty sure soontir fel was baron fel but after your statement that it wasn't I went to wookieepedia and the first paragraph explains how he revived the 181st and earned the title of baron of the empire. So yes Soontir and baron are the same one.
