Sense power upgrades

By Cilionelle, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi there,

Just a question about the Sense power and its upgrades... I don't have my copy of the rulebook with me at the moment. It's on loan to another player.

1) 'Commit [one Force die]' still means 'this die is unavailable for anything else', as per the Beta rules?

2) The duration upgrade means that single die can be used more than once, or that I need to commit a second die to allow this to be used more than once?

3) If I'm in a fight, using the force power means I've used my action for the round, correct? I can't then attack?

Thanks!

1. Correct. You can't use a force die if it is being committed to an ongoing effect, like the Defensive or Offensive upgrading from the control upgrade for Sense.

2. I'm a little unclear as to what you mean here. For the ongoing power, you do NOT have to roll the die when you use it. The power automatically uses its effect just by having a force die committed. The control upgrade allows you to upgrade ONE incoming attack per round (or upgrade one outgoing attack per round, with the offensive one.) The Duration upgrade makes it so you get to upgrade TWO incoming (or outgoing) attacks per round, depending on the power. So, if you committed one force die to the defensive ongoing control power, and you were fighting two guys, you could upgrade the attacks from BOTH of them, instead of just one.

Now, I don't know how the Duration thing helps the offensive power... perhaps you can upgrade the SAME check twice? That seems too powerful.

3. Yes, using a Force Power is an action. As such, activating an ongoing power is also an action. However, ongoing powers last indefinitely, so you could have that ongoing sense activated well before a combat scenario occurs, and you wouldn't have to worry about having that action taken from you.
