Lethal Counterattack

By Joshaw, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Scenario:

-Player 1 declares an 8 strength military challenge.

-Player 2 defends with 3 strength, but before the challenge resolves kneels two Stark characters and plays Lethal Counterattack ( http://www.cardgamedb.com/index.php/GoTCards.html/_/core-set/lethal-counterattack-core ).

With player 1's characters now dead (assuming no saves were used), is the strength of the challenge considered to be reduced to 0, so player 2 successfully defended the challenge, or with the attacking characters all gone, does no one win the challenge?

The challenge doesn't end just because there are no attackers left - it still resolves, and the defender wins with a strength of 3. If he used Lethal Counterattack prior to declaring a defender, then the challenge would end because there'd be no participants.

Awesome. That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure before I threw it in my Siege deck. Thanks!

It's great in this scenario if the 3 STR is Brienne of Tarth, sine they can't trigger saves while she's participating.

Dastardly! I look forward to the day I get to try this.
