Obsession Obligation

By Bayard91, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So my character has Obsession as an obligation. I'm playing as a clone survivor who was a young child when the Empire attacked Kamino. What he is obsessed with is finding the cure, or whatever he needs, in order to slow, if not stop, his rapid growth. Currently he has the body of a 36 year old man. But what about in another five years?

And it is not just for himself. But for all of his brothers scattered around the galaxy.

Now here is my question.

Eventually I will want to reduce my obligation rating which at the moment is 25. Not that high, but with all of the other players, it does add up. And I think some of the other players did take on addition obligation. I believe our collected rating is something like 75.

I'm guessing you question is, "how do I buy this down/off?"

You either find a cure or make peace with the fact that there simply is no cure.

I've got a couple associated questions...

a) How is 25 obligation "not that high"?

b) How many players do you have in your group that you managed to get start with 25 obligation (you can't more than double the base obligation, so you can't hit 25 unless you have 3 or fewer players).

For a 2 character game, you're looking at a max of 40 with your 25 making up the rest, for a maximum total of 65 obligation.

If you're in a 3 character game, then with a total obligation of 75, you're looking at either 25 across the board, or 20, 25, 30 for the 3 characters.

In a 4 character game, you 5 points over the max you can start with, but 75 total still means that only one character took *less* than the maximum additional obligation. (2 max, if you account for your extra 5)

In a 5 character game, you're still only 5 points over the max, but the 75 total becomes a *bit* more reasonable, since that's the only setup where a party can legally *start* at 100 obligation or greater (unless you actually have 10+ characters).

In a 6 character game, you're a whopping 15 points over the max, and your party is over the max by that same amount.

The Empire attacked Kamino? Why? That just doesn't make any sense.

The GM said to take on as much Obligation as we wanted. In the end, it will only make it harder on ourselves. I took the additional 15 for the credits. Now I just want to know how to get rid of it.

But I guess Lorne really answered it. It's what I figured would happen. Oh well, I'll just make a glorious last stand moment with this character and fight a bunch of Imperials. Then I'll bust out my Traffic Control droid who is an assassin bounty hunter.
