Origin: Void-Born

Ahh, now were at an interesting one.

See, the thing with Void-born is that its actually the first to be expanded more than Feral-worlder [who got Dusk], into three distinct branches with three completely different feels.

The first, is standard from Core: the regular Voids-born, [and likely the most bland]. Soon to be followed by the "Puritan" Battlefleet Voids-born, an Officer! A warrior! A very flavorful option. And lastly, from Radicals handbook, the infamous Dark holder [which was my favorite origin- haunted ship type semi-mutant? man, epic.]

So this is a problem that were going to start encountering for the next few origins: how VARIED they can be, so the abilities to represent this should help reflect that.

I propose, for the two unique abilities

1) Reflects your life upon a standard Imperial Vessel [some sort of "belongs to a specific cast], like fit for purpose from Core.

2) Reflects your life upon a Space-hulk, or some such. [some sort of survival of the fittest]

For the "Dependent on where you came from Ability" we can expand on what standard imperial vessel means [Rogue Trader, Battlefleet, regular trader, mortuary ship, stuff like that] so that this would apply even if you were on a space-hulk, its just that before the ship turned to a space hulk, this is what it used to be, so you can still gain an edge in those situation.

Now I am a bit of a loss on what those abilities could be. No Penalty for lack of gravity is great, BUT it should go as a standard part of the "Dependent on where you came from", which should further get another bonus thats going to be more interesting, useful and unique.

Keeping in mind that these abilities should, to the best of our capabilities, not be replicated by skills or talents [or able to be purchased later at a minimal cost].

I liked in the old version the way void born were seen as a bit weird, and so were at penalties to talk to those off the ship. Myplayers are always playing that aspect up. But seeing as we're only going for bonuses here some sort of on-ship bonus might be nice, whether it's talking to crew or finding your way around... Not sure exactly. Plus I wouldn't want the bonus to be too tiedto a location.

They also used to be charmed, with less chance of losing fate points, but that's been stolen by Shrine World characters. Instead perhaps some sort of fear resistance for all the strange things they've seen, especially good for those who lived on a space hulk. Reduce insanity point gain?

That's Genius!

OOoh- Brilliant, actually!!!

The two branches would be

a) Void-Dweller [Reduce Corruption Gains by 1, but Increase insanity points gains by 1 as your more susceptible to madness.]

Or

b) Dark-holder [Reduce insanity points gained by 1, but increase corruption by gains by 1]

And lastly- ignore difficult gravity & one last thing based on the type of ship you come from...

No comments on this particular idea?

Well these don't really seem like a bonus, since they are both a + and a -. I would think a better positive bonus is needed to be in line with the bonuses other worlds could get.

I think it would be best in general to have a Core Origin (like "Void Born") and a detail-addition, like they made it a little in the Inquisitors handbook, effectively creating sub-origins out of a core origin.

This would be something I would love to see again.
