Dark Memories

By Whitefro, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I'm trying to figure out if a unit will receive the damage before it gets the opportunity to fully resolve it's strike if it has Dark Memories attached to it?

From the core rule book (pg. 20):

resolving a strike

To resolve a strike, a player follows these steps in order.
1. He chooses one of his participating ready units.
2. He focuses the unit to strike (i.e. places a focus
token on the card).
3. He resolves the striking unit’s combat icons by type.
I see that has whoever's turn it is to resolve a strike first chooses a unit, he focuses that unit (which in my particular scenario means both Dark Memories and Across the Jundland Wastes now trigger: receiving one damage for the focus from striking and another focus from jundland thus resulting in another damage) which if my kindergarten math isn't too rusty means we have 2 focus tokens on the unit, 2 damage, and now a strike to resolve presuming the unit is still alive.
Thoughts, questions, concerns, mindless rambling?

yeah, that looks right to me. Dark Memories + Across the Judland Wastes is quite the combo. Now I'm wondering if I can actually build a deck using it...

ask nate, It would make Dark Mem much better

It's been clarified somewhere, not entirely sure where -- you put focus on a unit in that second step. If it is enough damage to equal or exceed it's remaining health capacity, the unit is destroyed before striking.

really? That's not a very intuitive ruling, I assumed it happened after.

The steps for striking are outlined in the rule book (and quoted in the first post of this thread). Step 2 is placing the focus token. Step 3 is resolving combat icons. That means that things that respond to focusing to strike happen after Step 2, including Dark Memories.

If an interrupt stops the focus token from being placed, would that stop the strike from completing?

Nope. I'm guessing that you're referring to Spice Visions here. Focusing is not a "cost" for striking, so an interrupt that keeps the focus token from appearing does not keep the strike from proceeding as normal.

Wow! Thats awesome. Note to self: Never give a Wookiee dark memories. Additional note: Never play dark memories if a Wookiee is on the table.

Is it a combo? Dark memories says one or more. Hmm. but I guess they happen at different times so it works.
