If you were playing a game with a single investigator who would you choose?

By Mud Turkey 13, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I was just curious to see which investigator people thought would be the best equipped to win on their own.

Joe Diamond. His double die per clue spent ability is impressive. He's an amazing sealer, and armed with a shotgun he's almost unstoppable

Akachi, probably. No matter what happens, or what AO you go against, she will always be able to seal gates and reduce costs to do so.

Wendy Adams. Fast, sneaky and well equipped. Whoever i chose, I would have one main tactic for the win unless we are dealing with St. Toad (Tsathogghua) - get deputised. The patrol wagon is worth its weight in sanity...

Bob Jenkins. Because he was my investigator in my first play of AH. 1 investigator against Yig, with a shotgun. And I actually won, so I'll always have this fond memory of Bob :)

This is a good call :) You start with 8 "virtual" clues, and this means you can quite easily get two seals on the board in a very short time and get deputizedv very soon in the game. My main concern for the "who will you pick up" is that it's very likely n a 1-investigator game that you end up in final battle, and that's was the reason for me to say Joe

Bob's one of the best investigator's in town. Once you pass his PS, he becomes an unstoppable clue-generating machine! I'm always happy when I draw Bob!

Love me some Mandy!

My giant man-crush on Silas leads me to choose him and his marvelous chest hair and rippling biceps.

1 player game means (almost every time) final battle, and the most potent fighter out there in this scenario would be J.D. - but I would still choose to gamble a bit and run with Daisy. Her *book* offers amazing versatility. One little spell can possibly cleave the old one in two. ;-) Lily Chen is also very good at fighting the AO.

I will like to add an adendum to mine--I have a soft spot in my heart for both Luke and Roland, and so while Akachi, to me, makes the most sense in terms of mechanics, Roland was my 'first' and I would probably pick him, mechanics aside (though he does have very good ones).

Luke, I love his flavor text and theme and all, and his ability to get free Clue tokens just for being Luke is great but he'd be like--my third pick.

So, if the game was one-investigator, but we would be allowed up to three 'Devours' before game over, it would be:

Akachi, Roland, Luke

But is possible to win with only 1 or 2? there is a chance at all?

Yes. With fewer player numbers, your chances of winning by final combat goes up. Granted, this is not a terribly fun way to win if you have to do it every time, but with just the base game, a 2-player seal victory is perfectly attainable.

OK thank for your answer. I put my eye on this game since i wonna get some good cool and difficult game mostly to play solo. but sometimes with some friend too. Look like is a proper one. I have Touch of evil and i like it but i dont really wonna bay expansion. I check for the Fortune and Glory but look like AH is the best...... Still not decide yet........

Glaurung, just remember that being the game coop, you can play solo with multiple investigators, so you don't have to worry about 1 or 2 or 3 investigators: just play with the number you want to play :)

George Barnaby, only because I evilly want people to give reasons why he'd be such a bad choice for a single-person game!

(maybe this should go on a "Worst" or "Most Challenging" Candidate list...)

We can do that, too. Who would you least want to use in a game with just one investigator?

Maybe starting a specific thread could be better for visibility :)

Yes you right but i dont really like to track a lot of characters . You always forget something and your brain is boil also. Cannot get a good feeling from the game. Is mu personal case. I really look on this game now. I have Touch of Evil and i like this game. But AH looks more cool as a game for solo. TOE is very good competitive much much better then cooperative.

But i dont have a many plyyers around me so i try to find something cool to play solo. And i really like this one. Also i like Fortune and Glory. So i think now what to buy......
