A word of caution...

By Radwraith, in Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta

The same is true for WoD; the fluff for nWoD is just bad compared to the old one in many places, especially Mage, and butchering established fluff is the most surefire way of antagonizing your player base (look at the 4e version of Forgotten Realms, they pulled the Spellplague out of nowhere to restructure the setting and butchered it to include the new 4e races, and it's a mess. And people hate it.)

Actually the surest fire way was to tell the 'official' fan organization that they were no longer to support any role play from the previous edition. That started a firestorm right there with WoD and took them a while to backpedal on it, causing quite a bit of damage.

That too :D . Telling people how they should play your game (especially if you claim there is only One True Way to do so) is never a good idea, and you would think that past experience would keep publishers from doing that same mistake over and over again...

You'd think, huh?

The Master of the Dark Reign does find your mention of 4e amusing, for while many did enjoy 4th edition, none did so more than the makers of Pathfinder. Among those who did not, the employees of Wizards of the Coast were numbered.

Wasn't a dig at anyone specifically, just want to say by 2 pence that I personally have been enjoying the new system.

I've played a fair bit of DH2.0, and it was always fun. Of course, as I said in a different thread, I don't think it was the new rules that made it fun. It was the charcters we made, the story we were playing, and the interactions both in-game and between my friends that made it fun. We could have been using DH1.0 and it wouldn't've changed the fun. What did change was the complexity of combat. Flipping back and forth to find critical tables was an unnecessary pain, and the emphasis there is on unnecessary.

End of the day I don't like lateral change. I want things to improve, not simply move a step to the side.

It works better when I don't do it as often. But it was fun. I haven't worn that mask in a while.

BTW: if you missed it, Alpharius said he found the two of us agreeing 'Disturbing'.

That's always the problem with playtesting, you can have a blast with even the most god awful rules. The Hell Party had fun playing with the combat system here. Not for the right reasons, as you might imagine.

"And now for a taste of things to come!"

Since we were testing the combat system, the party was sent by their Inquisitor to a remote planet on the far reaches of the sector to compete in a tournament held once every generation.

"A handful of people in an Aquilla leaking air are gonna save the sector?" "Exactly".

*The Inquisitor begins clapping*

Well done. Now tell me, what do you plan to do about them.

*Acolytes turn to see 20 Plague Bearers*
