Need advice for building a deck (Core + Khazad Dum + Dwarrowdelf)

By Aragorn3390, in Strategy and deck-building

Hi all,

I love reading all these forumposts about the different decks you try out and use to tackle the different game scenario's. I'm a solo player myself (can't find anyone near me who like these kinds of games) and while I had a blast playing, I seem to lose a lot.

I started with buying the core set and while I could play very well solo against the Passage to Mirkwood scenario, the troubles started with the Arduin one, I can't seem to win anymore...

But, for the love of the game and because I had some pocketmoney to spend, I have bought the full Khazad Dum expansion set with all the Dwarrowdelf Adventure Packs, so I'm now ready to build a deck to tackle all these scenario's.

Problem is, I have a lot of trouble making a good deck, so maybe someone can give me some pointers to good Heroes and key cards in some decks. I think myself that Glorfindel (Spirit) and Elrond will be very fun to use, maybe in combination with the Aragorn from the dwarrowdelf expansions. Is it possible to create a solid deck with it, that I can use against most, if not all of the scenario's from the Core Set and the full Khazad Dum - Dwarrowdelf cycle? Can you give me (some of) the cards I would need to include?

Thanks for any help!

welcome to the forum

i am a solo player who plays multihanded as well (i would recommend this dearly....i used to stay away from the idea but love it now..)

solo deck building is harder the multideck building for the reason that you need to cram everything into 1 deck.

here is my most poweful deck i have played, that i built with a friend. it is a secrecy deck and even though i dont know if you will have all the cards, have a look and let me know then i can advice which ones to replace them with

dwarrowdelf was the secrecy cycle so i hope that you have most of the cards there. the basic idea is to mulligan for as many of these cards as you can: timely aid, resourceful, risk some light, stewards fear, elronds counsel.

timely aid can get out a high cost ally first round like gildor which is otherwise near impossible. card draw is key here so use peace and thought early on when you can afford 2 exhausted heroes. those 5 cards are key to getting more cards.

very soon you will have your entire hand almost out, so watch out for will of the west to recycle your deck.

i know for sure you dont have the lampwright but he combos nicely with risk some light to prevent surges.

are you thinking about card combos? there are many good combos available with your card pool...for example using gloin to take damage, then healing with self preservation or similar and getting the resources from that damage....this sets up a resource machine. there are many examples of these combos.

hope this helps, let me know which cards you can put in the deck

Elrond/Glorfindel based decks are my favourite, and very powerful too. Here's a decklist that's fairly close to what I normally use, adjusted to use only 1 core set and Dwarrowdelf cycle cards. I normally use Beravor as the third hero, but when adjusting the deck I found I was having to take out Lore cards and replace them with Spirit cards, so I replaced Beravor with Eleanor. I haven't tested the changes I made, so you could also experiment with keeping Beravor instead, or replace Eleanor with Eowyn if you think you need even more questing power.

The deck will take a little practice to get the hang of, and isn't too great with combat, although it should be able to defend reasonably well and keep its threat low to minimise the number of enemies it needs to engage at any given time. Imladris Stargazer is probably the most important card you can play early in the game.

Heroes (starting threat: 25)

1 x Elrond
1 x Glorfindel
1 x Eleanor
Allies (24)
1 x Arwen Undomiel (replace with 1 x Bofur for The Redhorn Gate and Road to Rivendell)
1 x Faramir
3 x Gandalf
2 x Gleowine
1 x Henamarth Riversong
3 x Imladris Stargazer
3 x Master of the Forge
3 x Northern Tracker
3 x Warden of Healing
3 x Erebor Hammersmith
1 x Erestor
Events (13)
2 x A Test of Will
3 x Daeron's Runes
1 x Dwarven Tomb
2 x Hasty Stroke
3 x Elrond's Counsel
2 x The Galadhrim's Greeting
Attachments (13)
2 x Asfaloth
1 x Forest Snare
3 x Light of Valinor
1 x Unexpected Courage
3 x Vilya
3 x Miruvor

Wow! Thanks a lot for the responses, I will try to create a deck with them and will post back the results when I've played with it (should be tomorrow). One thing I didn't realize yet was that I could keep enemies from engaging me by having low threat, so I can effectively try to choose my targets. I will need a lot of questing power that way, though, so that is definitely something to consider.

The Gloin trick is indeed smart, with healing I can get a lot of resources, and with card draw I can play a lot of cards that way. And then I can again refill my library with Will of the West ^_^ .
