I have a question about this card and other cards that let you take a card from any deck, are you allowed to take any card you want or do you only take the first card on the deck you choose?

It depends:

Armoury, Stables and Magic Emporium decks are not randomly drawn, so you take the card of your choice.

Potion and Pet decks are hidden and you must draw randomly (first card).
