Bad Publicity Credits

By LAPAPA, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

Last game I played I was playing weyland corp and I had a bad publicity token.

when the credit was generated during a run we took a credit from the bank and put it between the two of us, near the server that was being run.

When he was paying for the subroutines, sometimes he forgot to use that credit, and after the run was over he wanted to put the credit in his pool stating that he forgot to use it. I said that if the credit wasn´t spent he had to put it back.

We argued about this and he told me that I was being picky. I told him that even if he didn't use the credit because of neglecting it that he must put it back.

Im aware that are other ways of doing this, like putting the bad publicity credits in his pool, so he doesn't ever forget to use them. But if we decide to put the credits between us or in my corp identity card and he forgets to use them, should I as the corp be responsible for his forgetfulness?

This is not really a rules question, but one of sportsmanship. So my answer is just how I personally would handle things. In a friendly casual game, as the corp, I would always let them retroactively spend the BP credit that they forgot to use. As a runner, I would never insist on getting to retroactively spend a BP credit I forgot to use, but I would ask the corp if I could.

Though I find it a bit baffling how your opponent keeps forgetting to use it with the BP clearly visible on the table, so I might stop being so lenient after a while just to teach them. :)

In a tournament setting, I would probably be lenient the first time, and then stop thereafter and call a TO if there's any dispute.

Ultimately, it's the runners responsibility to use the credits, so you have to decide for yourself how lenient you want to be.

Man... my sugestion goes between what you do...

Leave the Bad Publicity token in the middle of the table, between the runner and the corp..
We do like that, and for us also sounds like a thematic idea as the middle of the table being the outsite world, somewhere between the two sides, and the bad publicity is there! :)

That NEVER gave me and my friends playing any problems or confusion.

I tend to be rigorous with myself so I expect that from others, but some people prefer a more "Friendly" or lenient kind of play.

Well, I guess it will be best if I adapt the way BP tokens are handled acording to the person Im playing with. What doesn't work with one person, works with another.

Thnak you for your advice :)
