Chapter III: Skills

By FFG Andy Fischer, in Proofreading Changes

Welcome to the proofreading changes sub-forum for the Dark Heresy 2nd Edition Beta.

In this thread, you can list any proofreading changes you find in Chapter III: Skills.

As mentioned in another post, dodge skill description on page 81 refers only to ranged attacks, while the combat description on page 202 says that it can be used to dodge any type of attack.

Perhaps it should be specified more clearly: ranged and melee attacks?

p 88: "As Tarath is bitten by enters a temple"

As written this makes no sense. Remove the text in red.

p74: the dodge example box mentions "full cover" and "half cover". I can't find these specifications of cover nowhere else in the rulebook...same goes with parry ("partial cover").

Table 2-5: Skill Aptitudes (pg 52) for Common Lore lists Intellegence and Knowledge while the entry for Common Lore (pg 73) lists Intellgence and General. This is both in the Dark Heresy Beta and in the Only War Core Rules.

Regaurding Allocating Points. As written right now it would seem that the '-' from home world changes has no negative effect. Currenlty it lists that all characteristics start at 20 (or 25 for more experianced Acolytes) and that - Characteristics: Starts with a score of 20 as well (or 25 if you raise the the '-' bonus by 5 for experianced Acolytes). This results in the base and the '-' adjusted rate is always the same.

Based on the + Characteristic being 30 and the '-' being 20 that starting points should be 25 for Allocating Points, or 30 for experianced Acolytes.

Otherwise if 20 is the wanted starting point then '+' should read "Starts with a score of 25" and '-' should read "Starts with a score of 15". This does however end up underpowered comparted to dice rolling however.

Using the Allocating Points system if you equally distribute points you obtain the average score (using a 20 base) of 26 (31 for '+' stats, 21 for '-' stats).

Using a dice rolling (with base of 20)... you should average 30 (33 for '+' stats, 27 for '-'). <excludes re-roll influence> As such I think a 20 base in dice rolling is actually more akin to 25 starting base in Allocating points.

Yes this was lazy math.

In update 6 I noticed that you did address the Allocating Post side bare, moving the starting value from 20 to 25. However it would seem that the text about advanced acolytes was not updated to match.

If desired and all players (especially the GM) agree, players

can instead start character generation with 25 instead of 20 to

reflect more experienced Acolytes ready to face even greater threats.

If so, adjust the values in the Allocating Points sidebar to start with

25 points, and raise the + and – Characteristics by 5.”

Page 18, Allocating Points sidebar: Replace the sidebar with the

new one at the top of page 1.

If so, adjust the values in the Allocating Points sidebar to start with

25 points, and raise the + and – Characteristics by 5.”

Should read:

If so, adjust the values in the Allocating Points sidebar to start with

30 points, and raise the + and – Characteristics by 5.”

The Crafting sidebar on page 68 lists several items that can be created with the Chem-Use skill, which does not exist anymore. I believe it should reference the Medicae skill.
