Injury Question

By FangGrip, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Most RPG Systems that use success have the first success deal the base injury of a weapon, with additional success increasing that base injury by usually one. If I am understanding the RAW correctly, EotE always adds the number of net successes to the injury dealt, so the minimum injury that can be inflicted is the BASE INJURY + 1.

This seems inelegant to me somehow. Did this come up during the Beta? Did the developers explain why they went this way with the system?

Actually, yes. The devs answered this a couple episodes ago, on the Order 66 Podcast.

The intent was actually to make it more elegant, and faster.

Yes, you will always (in essence) add at least +1 to any damage value of a weapon (since you need 1 success to hit). And this WAS accounted for in the final base damage values of all weapons.

The idea was that it's just easier to say "how many successes do I have" and add that to the weapon damage; than to take your successes, subtract 1, THEN add that to the weapon damage. [shrug]

Slightly less math a the table. ;)

Gotcha. Thank you. I honestly started not listening to the podcast with episode 13. I haven't had a chance to go back yet and listen to them all.

No one listens. :D

Happy to help, FangGrip! (And thank you for never listening to the Order 66 Podcast!)

My gun, a +1

It's elegance is a mathematical mystery

She'll go down in galactic history

As my gun.

I actually didn't know this. I thought the first success you get just means you hit, and then any additional successes are added to damage.

But instead, any successes are added to the base damage of the weapon? Good to know.

Yeah, its different than most systems. I first realized it reading a few other posts and thinking that the person was wrong. Then I reread the section to confirm it before I made an ass out of my self. Turns out to be the case. Still feels odd though.

Unlearn......... ;)

(I meant to add the emoticon but forgot. )

Unlearn.........

Heh. I have learned, unlearned, and developed so many games I am amazed that I remember any details any more. :D

I have never used a system like this before so add all successes seems intuitive to me.
