UFS at Patriot Games Huddersfield - FREE SEALED DECK, Constructed, Pre-Release

By Hinomura, in UFS Uk Forum

Heya folks

We're trying to kickstart the UFS scene here in Huddersfield with three great events in the coming weeks.

Firstly, as part of the 3rd Anniversary celebrations, we're hosting a free sealed deck tournament on Sunday 29th March. While all players are welcome at the event, we're giving priority to new players: I don't envisage a shortage of starters, so everyone that turns up should be able to play. The week after, we're running a free constructed tournament on Sunday 5th April, with promo cards and product to be won. Again, this event is very much geared towards new players, so we're encouraging any experienced players to bring along any fun or casual decks they may have.

We will also be running a pre-release tournament for Set 12 on the evening of Friday April 10th. Price and final details are to be confirmed shortly, but we're aiming to be as flexible as possible to make it possible for players from outside the area to attend.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact the shop.

Thanks,
Mark

Both of our 3rd Anniversary tournaments will begin at midday to give folk plenty of chance to get here.

Details of our pre-release:

We'll be running on the evening of Friday 10th April to avoid clashing with Sheffield. Start time is 6pm - if anyone wants to attend but can't be there by six, let me know and I'll work something out. Our pricing will be the same as Sheffield, so £17 gets you a starter and three boosters. We'll allow players to choose what mix they'd like if possible. Prizes include set 12 boosters and playmats.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

Thanks,
Mark

Is there any place to park near the shop? Preferably free or very cheap?

There's a carpark that charges £3.50 all day and is I believe free on Sundays about five minute's walk away from the shop. It's on Fitzwilliam Street, across the road from the Penine Radio Limited building. The postcode is HD1 5BE.

Bumping ahead of tomorrow's tournament.

Well that was a fun day yesterday, started off well with me getting free parking as a couple with an all-day ticket gave it to me as they were leaving.

Not a great turnout to the tournament but I wasn't expecting one, had a good mix of Shadowar and SC4 starters being chosen, I think the ratio was 4 SC and 2 Shadowar. Between us we used:

Cervantes

Nightmare

Siegfried

Ivy

Zi Mei

Ragnar (Ross had so much love for this guy)

I was running Cervantes off Void, so I couldn't use the Menuette Dance that I pulled in one of my packs. Shame.

First round was against Zi Mei, who is slightly fragile, though did end up winning in the end by a combination of a (Combo)Multiple two attack combined with her card pool clearing and momentum regeneration. Built in constructed centered around Wind she looks to be a really strong aggro character.

Bye in the second round, then went against Mark's Siegfried in the last round. I have to say, didn't get much of Siegfried's blanking ability used against me, but his damage pump really adds up, especially since I shared no symbols with him so all his attacks went from base 3 to base 7 with ease. I think he's really gonna help Good to be strong again.

After the rounds we randomly handed out promos/extra boosters and I managed to pick up a Padma and one of the Ivy rares that I was after from the set, and I also managed to trade for a Raging Gnome (only 3 more to go!).

Overall a reasonably fun event, though I had trouble getting OUT of Huddersfield later on.

EDIT: We also noticed the curiosity that Uncommons from SC are listed as UC on the cards, while in Shadowar they're just Us.

Was good to see you here, Patrick. We had a second Ivy player join us when Kevin arrived late in the first round, but all your other details are correct. Sorry I couldn't be more help with directions...I have a Welshman's sense of geography.

Our winner was Nathan Dodsworth playing Nightmare, beating Michael Hardiman's Zi Mei in the final.

llorando.gifllorando.gifllorando.gif I would have beat him in that round to if hadn't gotten attack screwed. 20 attacks and you can't even draw one.

Anyway it was good to see you, and as per usual a very well run tourney. On Saturday Ross was still going on about that terrible Ragnar deck.

Who'd he get this time around?

He played Soulcal and got Siegfried, however two unfortunate people pulled the terror that is Ragnar.

Here's my tournament report for Huddersfield:

Deck Building: Oh noes, I pulled an aggro character. Hmm, not room for much customisation here, I'll just put some more elusive blocks in. The modifiers suck though.

Round1: WTF? All my foundations are 3 difficulty and have no blocks. I lose on turn 3 or something similarly "interesting"....in both games.

Round 2: I think the noises I was making were sometihng like "JKSD&"£$YET&KL:WEK:!!!!!" This is actually a "constructed" deck? The first fully preconstructed starter and it looks like this? Who built it?!?!? I get killed somewhere around turn 3 twice again.

Round 3: I emerge victorious the only way I can.... against the bye.

Round 4: There wasn't one, so I repeatedly stamped on the starter deck and threw it in a corner. Felt a little better.

The moral of the story: Never open a Ragnar starter unless there is no toilet roll to be found......
