"Fistful of Dice:" Edge of the Union RPG

By BrashFink, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Just a small update...

It is not dead, just been busy. I do not have a gaming session this weekend so I think I will finish the book up. All I really need to do is tie all the pages together, finish layout and work up some "connective filler text".

Looking forward to it. :D

This is not a bad idea... I will think about this.

You don't have to roll a Triumph to get a Crit. You just need to roll enough Advantage to trigger it. Either having close ranges grant Advantage, or reducing the Crit requirement and having long ranges generate Threat would help trigger them more often at short distances. I'm not sure which one would feel 'cleaner' from a write-up stand point, but I suspect it's the Threat version suggested by JasonRR. (Mostly becaus his version made sense to you first, and that's a fairly objective measure of clarity.)

I am warming to this concept. I think I will alter the rules so the crit requirements change each range... something like 4/2/1 for Med, Short, Engaged. The 4 really shows that at med... not so dangerous. Close and Engaged, horrible... (maybe 5/3/1 -- not sure).

I am thinking Shotguns will have the property that makes crits worse (vicious? cannnot remember now, at work).

I agree that that is the simplest way to get across what I want.

You could also just have Vicious increase as the range gets shorter. 2/1/0 : close/short/medium.

Yeah I was thinking about that too, but I think compounding it over and over again might be over kill. I think damage difference and crit ease will fulfill what I wanted to do.

I see that you not only did Cthulhu EotE, but also Deadlands EotE. Nice :) !

Well, more of a Spaghetti Western thing... not so horror oriented, but you could use it however.

This has really taken to the backburner recently. Shame really, it is so close to done.

Hello BrashFink,

Any news? Can you release some beta at least? :)

Sorry, this has completely come to a stand-still.

Instead of going over all of the attachments (etc), I am going to just put a "Go with what makes sense in your campaign" statement.

Let me review what I have. I think all I really need to write is a few small connecting bits and I can probably just release it as is.

Much appreciated! I will try to use it for Deadlands.

It's been posted. See first post, the link is there.

This looks fantastic! I'm so glad you posted this.

Have you play tested the shotgun? It seems pretty devastating, especially compared to the other weapons.

Thank you :)

Looks great BrashFink! :D

Very nice. I'd only ask one change (or access to the file) and that's to up the body text font size by one or two points. Otherwise very nice.

I may look at the Shotgun again possibly simplifying it too: Dam 10, with the Spread Barrel Mod (so Short Range only) and Slow Firing 1. But I'll have to test it.

This is really nice Brash. Well done.

Has anyone taken it out for a spin? I'm curious to see if there are any issues in play.

Jaime

Hey folks... just noticed an error and i thought I would give a shout out.

Page 4, the skill "Knowledge Union" is listed as its Original Skill as "Piloting (Space)". This obviously a Cut and Paste typo. The real skill this replaces is "Knowledge Core Worlds".

BrashFink I'm not really a western fan but I love what you have here. A fun weapon for your arsenal is the air rifle used by Lewis and Clark: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-pqFyKh-rUI

So, has anyone modified a character sheet for use with Edge of the Union?

Would you like to have a Edge of the Union character sheet (PDF)?

I humbly submit one for your collection.

Awesome

It is ready for download. If anyone has questions or see issues, just post here and I will answer.

If there is a lot of typos and things I need to fix, I will update the link below and post in main thread that there is an update.

If this has enough errors, I will probably make an update. For now, here is a list:

Original Post:

Howdy folks, I am starting this thread as a discussion while I write out various pieces of my conversion of Edge of the Empire to an Old West setting in the vein of "Spaghetti Westerns" from the 1960s.

I will be posting each piece I am working on and welcome thoughts and comments on each part.

Eventually this first part will have a link to a downloadable PDF. This PDF will not so much contain rules as pointers to pages in the CoreBook and explaination of rule changes.

As many of you have said here and other threads going all the way back to beta... this game really easily lends itself to other genres. I actually feel you could use it for anything. I am planning no less than 4 of these conversions. The first 3 are going to be pretty simple and will be done pretty quickly. The last one (which will be a fantasy one for my old Pathfinder campaign) will not happen until the Force book comes out. I need to see everything the force can do to get magic up and running the way I want. This last conversion will also be quite a bit more detailed. In a way, these first 3 are betas for the last one.

When was the last update to the PDF?

Is the DL of the PDF the most current file?

thanks in advance

It has had no updates... the file is offered "as is".

There is a few errata listed in the original post. If anyone notices anything major (and I do not mean misspellings and typos), I mean major confusing issues... I will post in that errata section.
