Steal This Hook

By Velvetears, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Seeing as We're all brilliant genius types that are either Heretics or Saints i figured we'd be able to pound out some short ideas to give each other a "wow that looks cool, i think i'll steal that idea.." kind of warm fuzzy glow.

~What did we do next?~

The group are all but dragged before their Inquisitor and a handfull of his/her Interrogators and asked what they know about the Afriel Strain.

The questioning becomes violent, each of the characters are beaten to within an inch of their lives.

When given chance to recover a little they are handed an Astrotelecommunication scroll, bearing the following garbled message.

+++Have loc###d the Heret##al #####tory. We are forced in to this.

+++You have le## u# no Alternative.

+++Your God is A###e.

The scroll is signed with the characters names and suitable pass codes to prove identification.

However the dates come from 9 months in the future...

And there seems to be a backlog of these messages providing more information on what the characters have done, or rather what they will do next..

~The Great A J Kluum Show!~

As a reward for a recent mission success the group are given tickets to an off world show, set on a vast series of traveling ships.

The Space Circus & Freak Show has all manner of odd creatures, including a caged feral Kroot, and a stunningly beautiful woman wearing gossamer robes, bearing pointy ears reading poetry that moves people to tears!

One of the characters starts to suffer nightmares of beatings and violent ****, and during one of the nightmares they look in a fragment of glass and see the poets faces.

Sadly the Great A J Kluum Travelling Show has moved on.

And the nightmares are getting worse.

But to top things off the group are called to solve a series of murders in a local brothel where the working girl has gone missing...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~I'm sorry Dave, i Can't allow you to do that...~
A series of electronic and mechanical errors have been plagueing the characters recently.
Machine spirits have been unco-opertative down to the point of possibly harming the characters (Recaff machines spitting hot liquid, Dataslates connecting to printers and churning out reams of precious paper and so on).
Is there a virus? if so, how did it infect the systems? how far has it spread? Isnt Servitor #134/aza/962 looking at you a little strange?
Wasn't the groups techpriest the last one to give him maintenence?
Or is there something more insideous going on?
There you go, three quick ideas that can go absolutely anywhere for your groups!
Why not add some ideas of your own!
One of your party’s mothers is in trouble on their home world as she is being tried as a witch.
Your inquisitor give the group leave to go to the world and find out what is happening, but why?
When you get there and question the woman and locals there is no reason to think the woman is a witch but the trial going ahead and is not looking good.
What is going on?
*************************************************************
You are on a space station awaiting transfer to your next assignment and all the power go out. You wait quietly for the power to come back on but nothing happens.
What is going on and why is no one doing anything about it.
You go looking for what is going on and find a security team massacred in the hall way.
Really what is going on?
**************************************************************
You get a message from your inquisitor.
+++ come to Station Alpha 235 stat.
+++ make sure you are n^& followed.
+++ come armed for battle and tr&$% no one
When you make it to the station there is no sign of the inquisitor but 2 groups of his acolytes have already came to the station and are now dead.
Will you be next?
In a hive world, a wave of once-human-attackers (OPTIONS: crude servitors; psionical mind-slaved humans; possessed by unclean spirits; Oblivates; a new strain of Brain-Leaf-Thrulls; ) has been unleashed on hive sector/section.
The sector/section has been locked down and knowledge was denied to the public in order to prevent wide spread panic. A company is going to be dettached "for cleaning" (killing ever attacker and every wittness by fire) soon. The pc are ordered by their Inquisitor to go in prior to the cleaning ("in a haste") to find evidence from where the people (the "raw material") had been taken from. What was their common ground? Is their any?
As soon is this is known, the pc have to investigate how they have been abducted and by whom...before the next wave is unleashed.
A couple of plots that just occured to me. I like them so i'll probably use them!
--------------------
The "black market" gladiatorial arena in the Underhive has been known about for many years, with the Enforcers, Nobles and =][= all turning a blind eye as it keeps the various dregs happy and the gangs from getting over-populated, but now several Nobles have been spotted frequenting it, and rumours have begun about the fights now being more "exotic". Other rumours of clawed, misshapen beings, swift-moving and only glimpsed, never properly seen, have begun to circulate. Find out what is going on.
------------------
The Acolytes were enroute to one mission when their ship is attacked and dropped onto a planet. Unfortunately the planet is a global warzone and they're far behind enemy lines! Fight your way through to elements of the Imperial Guard and find out why your stealthed ship was able to be shot down!
-------------------
You're acolytes have busted the heretics behind the heretics behind the heretics but they've found out too much and their own =][= is now hunting them. Another inquisitor is on the planet and checking into the original =][= cell. Find the new Inquisitor and get help before an apocolypse of galactic proportions is unleashed by this corrupted lunatic!
------------------
The war has dragged on for years now, but the orks/cultists/weird blobs of jello the Imperium has been fighting have suddenly gone quiet. There is no sign of them ever having existed. No-one on the planet seems to know what you're talking about when you descibe events involving the enemy that have occured over the last decade, but have no trouble remembering events unconnected to them. What is going on here?
*Brain fart*
Part I: Outline
Acolytes are to retrieve an deep cover agent from [insert a place]. This particular agent is brainwashed/implanted with false memories to believe he is actually a part of the [insert organization] and may even be a crucial part of it. So this deep undercover most likely not come willingly but anyhow it's brain contain secrets the Inquisition wants.
Part II: Possible plot twists & twirls
  • a 3rd party has also infiltrated
  • The deep cover agent has gone under the knife and now has a new face
  • Code word restores the deep cover to his former self causing terrible mental trauma
  • Deep cover agent has been discovered somehow and is now replaced with an enemy double agent/counter spy
  • The [hostile organization] has take a habit of chaos worship and the deep cover agent has ended up as a demon host
Nuttunen out
I just used these in another thread but thought they were pretty good so I'll post them here.
-Your Inquisitor is a puritan, and has learned that a fellow inquisitor in the area has been cooperating with the Eldar (or another xenos race) in hunting down an Arch-Heretic that threatens the sub-sector. Rumor has it he's starting to "go xenos". Such heresy cannot be permitted to exist. Your acolytes must find him, determine the truth and take appropriate action.
-There's a mutant uprising on a near-by world. Your acolytes are sent to investigate the situation only to find it quelled. As they dig deeper they learn that the Planetary Governor was able to bring peace again by using a special police force of rogue psykers. Their work is indesputable, but everyday they live without sanctioning increases the threat of daemonic taint. Worst of all, the Planetary Governor knows this.
-Your Inquisitor is a radical who has for some time been overseeing a covern of Tzentchite witches that are bound to him/her. One has a prophecy that a terrible plague will sweep across the sub-sector should a certain pious Lord General be permitted to lead his forces against a legion of Nurgle cultists.
-The Lord Inquisitor of the sub-sector has always been stern and uncompromising. Recently, however, his commands have become rash and questionable, with a disturbing number of exterminatus at his hands. Your Inquisitor and possibly others have taken it upon himself/themselves to remove the Lord Inquisitor from command. To make matters difficult, he has a core of fiercly loyal Inquisitors that will stand in your way.
Excellent brain candy, I'd like to throw in a few of mine own if I could.
= You and your fellow acolytes have been personally recruited by the Lord High Inquisitor to investigate the goings on of a fellow Inquisitor, in the mean time, the Cabal is approached by the Grand Magos of the Lathes on the matter of a Magos gone Heretek who has made off with templates of Imperial battle ships and is looking to sell, coincidence?
= The forboding Tyrant Star Komus looms omniously over the Calixis sector. In the mean time, Violence reaches it's peeks across the sector as Cults of the various runious ones rage all out war against each other vying for a demonic artifact somehow connected to Komus. The Runious Gods watch in earnest, what could they seek to acheive?
= On the Pleasure World of Selenia, an artist is quickly gaining notarity throughout the Calixis sector for his paintings that peeks the interest (and purses) of the Scintillian Nobility. However, when one Noble informs the Cabal of strange noises and spectors that haunt his home and Nightmares that disturb his sleep it opens the path to murder and ruin for the Inquisition to uncover.
Theres rumors of a village where people dont die. investigate.
(an hidden sarcosan wave generator underneath town.
Dead Space (Yes, I like that game. A lot)
A mining colony has been declared excommunicate by the Inquisition for heretecial beliefs. An Inquisitorial team has been sent ahead of you to assert the extent of the damage, but you've lost contact with them, their final transmissions tell of reanimated zenos creatures. As a Deathwatch is assembled, the acolytes are sent ahead to see if they can uncover any samples of the alien tissue for the inquisitor to study.
******************************************************
Nobody goes to Theranus anymore.
One of the acolytes homeworlds has been declared excommunicate tratoris with no given reason. The acolytes slip back onto the planet to find an emperor fearing population, with not a whiff of anything untoward. Why was the planet forced from the imperium? Could it be anything to do with the govenors dealings with the inhabitants of the nearby moon? With the porcelean skinned creatures there, capable of mimicking all they come across, with a yearning for peace? No matter how friendly they are, they're not getting into our imperium!
The PDF and Arbitrators of a hive or large city have been dealing with a rash of mutations, breaking out suddenly among the middle-class populace. The mutations are massive (akin to WHFRP Chaos Spawn), resulting in the spontaneous creation of monsters with no perceivable reason why. The families of the mutated have been held and interrogated, and their homes thoroughly searched by the local law, but nothing beyond minor transgressions of faith have been found. Ordo Hereticus/Malleus is called in.
Investigation shows that many of the mutated frequented one or a series of taverns. A shipment of amlasec has been corrupted, either through accidental or purposeful exposure to the Warp. The people affected were the ones who liked the taste of the new batch. Confiscating the liquor from the taverns should be easy, but the corruption occurred at the distillery, and the Acolytes must investigate the source. In addition, another shipment, this one of a higher quality, has been sent to one of the more influential nobles in the city, and he is planning a wine tasting party, and inviting several hundred of his closest friends.
The Party is sent to a Fuedal world undergoing "Uplift" from Feral state, Local Troops still use Pre-Gunpowder Weapons, as do Noble House Troops. Royal House and Noble House Guards use Imported Projectile Weapons, The Royal Guards have access to a supply of Imported Laz Weapons. some Slug Ammunition is produced in Regional Capitals who can service Imported Slug & Laz weapons but not anything more complicated. their is a small population of Abhumans on world (Mostly Beastmen but a hand full of Ogryns)
A number of Ministorm "Uplift Missions" was sent out to the "Wild Lands" (that are still in the Planets orignal Feral State) a few years ago and initaly met with success, a short wile ago a number from the local region stoped reporting, Troops sent to investigate where meet with Hostility or disappeared themselves.
Wile the Patry was on rout a garbaled transmision was recived from one Mission in the Wild Lands, little could be made out but the word "Muntant" was beleaved to be used more than once.
Upon arivle it apears that the Royal and Noble House Armies are prepearing for War, the Ministoram and Royal Quattermasters will be willing to provide them with some basic equipment and primitive weapons, Slug and Laz weapons are unavalible as are Charge Packs, but Slug Ammo is for an inflated price. Infact the Royal Quatermaster (and any officers or nobles they meet) will offer good prices to buy Slug or Laz Weapons as well as Ammo and Charge Packs.
The Characters will be sent off with a number of Slug Rifle equipped Beastmen Troops and some Ogryns for heavy lifting from the Royal Army (Human Troops are unavalible), the Officers that provide them are more interested in seeing the Weapons returned than the Troops.
What's going on in the Wild Lands? and who are the Royal and Noble Armies geting redy to fight?
