Data Mine Noob

By LAPAPA, in Android: Netrunner Rules Questions

Hi!

I have a question regarding a situation that happened with Data Mine last game.

I two unrezzed ICE on a remote server. The first was Data Mine, the other one was a code gate Ice.

My opponent proceeded to encounter the ice (Data Mine) with a barrier subtype Icebreaker.

Since he could not match the ice subtype, the subroutine on Data Mine resolved and I trashed it.

My question is, does the run ends because his Ice a different subtype? Or would the run procceed to the next encounter since Data Mine was trashed and he also had a gordian blade thata was able to deal with the next piece of Ice.

If the run does not end, can´t see what´s the advantage of playing this card, unless one can use it with other cards in a clever way.

Forgive me if this is a dumb question, only played two games till now.

A run ends only if an "End the run" subroutine resolves or the runner jacks out. In your example, neither happened, so the run continues (and it does even if the runner has no icebreaker). The reason to play Data Mine is that it's a hard to break ICE (seeing that only generic icebreakers can do it) and it deals net damage (it is also cheap to rez and looks menacing while unrezzed).

Thanks for your quick reply, but there is is something I do not grasp. If a runner does not have an appropriate icebreaker (appropriate meaning being of the same subtype) how does he interact with the ice?

Does this mean that even if I have a certain subtype icebreaker I can encounter a different subtype Ice, suffer the effects of subroutines because I cant interact with it and then procced to next encounter? An example could be: a Gordian Blade encounters a Hunter, the Trace subroutine would resolve and I would countinue the run?

If so, I wasn't playing correctly.

yes you are correct you can continue the run after you receive the tag from the hunter subroutine.

Thank you both for enlightening me about this subject. I feel more confident now!

You can encounter ICE even if you have no Icebreakers at all.
