Design a monster

By Silverhelm, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

They have one of those in the conversion kit, too :P The Demon Lord.

Wait a minute, no, no there isn't what I'm talking about. I know about those 1st ed demons, but what I'm talking about is this:

There are no Uthuk Y'llan monsters yet ;) (to my knowledge anyways...)

I've made a topic about it.

I hope there will be a expansion full of Uthuk Y'llan monster

Seeing some posts about Zombie uselessness I've been inspired to help these poor guys! Maybe in a exspansion on its own or maybe in a big or small box they can do this.

The problem with zombies? It's not there states or there abilities the only problem with them is there simply isn't enough of them for Zombies to work they need to do what Zombies do best and that's overwhelm there victims! There just isn't enough zombies to make them work if FFG doubled the amount of Zombies I'd pick them a lot. Maybe two masters and double the rest (yes like CK Kobalds). My suggestion is make a monster exspansion idk call it zombie horde then sell it like that so you still need to play with smaller group version of them in campaigns. But open groups you can add this so called zombie horde.

Another post about (and this is OT) future exspansions is OL decks and I'd like to see box exspansions of just monsters. Lets face it a lot of people buy exspansions for the monster or cards anyway. I'd think this would sell better then a meh small exspansion or big exspansions. That doesn't mean we don't want new and better campaign exspantions I do! OL decks would be very cool too and better priced for the guy/gal who just wants the cards or monsters. I'd much rather see new monsters sold like plot decks. They can use this in many ways say the came up with a new insect idea for LoR or goblin or whatever. Well if someone just wants to collect just goblins or undead to add to there exsisting games they can. This also helps the OL's out there if he wants to keep the campaigns more monster thematic. "Instead of I'm choosing these monsters because I want to KO this annoying Treasure Hunter"ect.

Maybe a 4 square critter with a point of Reach to simulate tentacles of slime grabbing your gear. Spend a surge to "eat" a piece of gear at random, but exclude Runes as valid targets. Canon says that they are etched into the flesh of the caster. Hard to steal that...

Where does it say that? If that was strictly the case, they wouldn't have rune items that can be traded.

I was fairly certain that I read that in the first edition rules somewhere. Is it not the case? I was just going off of the background mythos.

The vast majority of rune spells are carved on stones, per the lore. That's why all the rune items are depicted as an icon on a trapezoidal stone slab. One assumes those icons are not the actual runes, but you get the idea.

There is precedent for some people carving magic runes into their bodies (see the Cult of the Rune adventure variant for Runebound), but that's generally rare. I suppose the Runemaster class has that one skill that allows him to put a rune on any weapon, too. That would presumably be carved/written directly on the weapon.

I can't think of any cases from D1E where someone had runes carved into their body (off the top of my head), unless perhaps it was something mentioned in the description of golems. There were a few cases of that sort of thing in Runebound; if you're familiar with that game, perhaps that's where you read it.

Nope, there are no Uthuk monsters in Descent yet. There's the Uthuk Demon Trap OL card in D2E, but that's about it. I'd be cool with a big box expansion focusing on the Uthuk as an enemy, personally.

Of course, there's BattleLore 2.0, which has lots of Uthuk units (including Chaos Lords) that I'm told are to scale with Descent figures. So if FFG doesn't introduce them officially, I'm sure there will be tons of homebrew fodder coming from BL.

On a side note of above why wouldn't there be by now a Kobald version for second edition anyway? I'm a zombie fan love Walking Dead show but man did they f@&k up these guys or what?

Kobolds are a fantastic open group. I really do love them. It's an ice breaker every time.

While I would never choose them for myself, I really don't think they messed up on zombies. Every time they have hit the field, the heroes have always had an issue with them. Every time. They are a themed monster group. They are only useful when the game says they are and that might be the only time you should play them.

Now, a monster group I am upset with is Cariron Drakes. While they are an alright group in act i, they don't carry in act ii at all. There is no punch. No anything. While you can normally rely on them to do at least one damage on a hero and they fly, that is no good reason for them to be bad. I am not going to grab a group for flying is they can't deliver.

I think there fine for campaign but not for an open group choice.

And I 100% agree.

I'm still waiting for a sphinx monster to pop up. :)

But also, I'd like to see more human monsters... we have Sorcerers and Bandits and Dark Priests, and I think "Dark Knight" would be a great monster group to balance it out (since Sorcerers mirror the Mage class, Bandits the Scout class, Dark Priests the Healer class... the Dark Knight would clearly mirror the Warrior class). Hopefully in one of the upcoming expansions, they'll have a humanoid warrior monster group.

Also, I would love to see more classic monsters like vampires (henchmen for Eliza!), werewolves, hags, mummies, etc. I like campaign-specific monster groups like Ironbound and Arachyura, but it'd be nice to get more universal monsters. If they run out of first edition monsters for the H&M Collections, they could always start adding new ones.

Personnaly I want to see two things

An expansion with werewolfs and corrupted treants in dark forest

and non-human heroes.

This! More humanoid groups please ! Dark Knights and rogues would be great.

Some orcs wouldn't go astray either.

Maybe they should bring out certain packs. Like for instance an orc pack( we have goblins but where are the orcs???), an undead pack (we all love skeletons, mummies, vampires,....), chaos pack (chaos warriors, dark knights, demons,...).

Nothing wrong with bringing some new sculpts for classic themed monsters.
