Which is better, OCTGN or LackeyCCG?

By Samwise Gamgee, in Star Wars: The Card Game

I have Star Wars: The Card Game but would like to get into playing online and understand there are really two "go to" plug-ins, OCTGN and LackeyCCG. I want to know which one the community prefers. Some things I am considering are game mechanics, set-up, ease of use, availability of card images and reliability. But any other factors that I should consider are welcome since I haven't used either.

This is my experience: I've tried both, but i'm now using OTCGN. it was real easy to install the plugins and after a few games I understood all the keyboard shortcuts, very positive. I guess OTCGN is missing some gadgets, like resuming game after disconnection and just watch some players doing their magic ; )

I had a not so good experience with Lackey, but i guess it was due to poor compatibility with windows 8, I can't even install the plugin, some messy interface right there....

OCTGN is windows only. So, if you have a Mac, you will need to use Lackey.

I would like to know why OCTGN doesn't have to blur the text boxes and card icons, when Lackey has every card after the core set blurred?

I play OCTGN and love it.

TopTierGaming keeps the images updated pretty well! On this page you can find the image packs up top without the censoring. Also, forums and articles!

The OCTGN version has the non-burred, but not the Lackey version. :(

There are non blurred for lackey. I will see about getting them up on Top Tier games.

was there a reason the blurred images were used? I've used lackey to test magic decks for years, so that is the program i am familiar with.

My thanks to anyone who can fix the image issue

Its a strange rule from FFG. Apparently they dont want unblurred images being used if its a new product. IDK to be honest.

Well that answered my question. I have Lackey and was going to try OCTGN but I am on a MAC. And I have WINE and CROSSOVER and PARALLELS but really it is better just to use a MAC program instead.

Well, I asked OCTGN if they had any plans to set up a Mac version and they don't. Apparently you can tweak your Mac to run OCTGN "almost" natively if you are familiar with Xcode and command line (I am not) and so, quit before even starting... Here the link to those directions:

I tried it and while I can get around programs a little bit, I ran into trouble. While I am not a fan of the Lackey interface, the program itself and the plugin work pretty well. Just takes a few games to get used to.

How did you do an edge battle on Lackey? I'm trying to figure it out against the test dummy.

Also, how do you see the text of the blurred cards?

For me, I ctrl click the card in my hand to turn it over then drag it to the table. As for the cards, I think Top Tier Gaming has a link to uncensored versions.

I thought the non-blurred cards on Top Tier Gaming were for OCTGN. Will they work for LACKEY too?

Thanks for the tip about the control key. Were can I find a list of short cuts for LACKEY?

I know Tragic started a thread in this forum for the plugin but I can't find it. Here's the same thread on CardGameDB. It has the shortcuts on the first page:
