Pictures of the Wayfarer-class Medium Freightor?

By Rookhelm, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Sorry if I missed this already discussed, but I'm having trouble figuring out what the Wayfarer Freighter looks like.

It's one of the 3 ships players can choose when creating a party. The YT and Firespray are obvious, but I'd like to know what the Wayfarer looks like. When I do a google search, I get a variety of things.

There's also various pictures in the rulebook, but none of them specifically say if it's the wayfarer.

Is there a canon look to this ship?

as best as i can tell, the ship on the bottom of pg 264 is a wayfarer. wookiepedia prolly has a better one however.

When I search Google images, the first 2 images that come up are pretty good, but Tenrousei is correct. There is an image of the Wayfarer in the book.

Here is the source of the first image that came up in my google search: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wayfarer-class_medium_transport

EDIT: This link has the same image that Venthrac posted, plus a look at a floor plan.

Thanks guys!!

I was also wondering what this ship looked like.

Now I know. (I should use Wookieepedia more often)

I found that pic, as well, but I believe Wookipedia calls that a Wayfarer class transport. Wasn't sure if it was meant to be the same things as a wayfarer freighter.

Kind of an ugly ship lol.

It is pretty ugly... but having modular cargo containers is pretty cool. While the containers are pretty rare, your group might be able to pick up another one at some point. You could modify one to be a hangar for a couple of fighters, and then the other could be maximized for cargo transport. Then you could drop one off at a storage location and pick up the other whenever you might need it.

Every time I see that thing I can't help but think that it would be smaller than a YT-1300. But it has a Silhouette of 5.

The cockpit scale is a little weird in the image of the wayfarer, but it is over twice the length of the YT-1300 (at least according to Wookieepedia):

YT-1300 Length: 34.75 meters

Wayfarer Length: 82 meters

The cockpit is always what does it. It looks like it would be a large shuttle more than a medium freighter. I think the design artist just kinda oops'ed.

If you look at the deckplans, you can see that the cockpit is much larger than the 1300's and has a few large seated stations. That exterior picture makes you think that they are the same size.

Oh, so more like a bridge than a cockpit? Cool.

It looks to me (from the illo) that it's got a full-on bridge rather than a cockpit. Presume those windows are 1.25m tall, of a 2.5m deck height, and you get two decks tall for the gray ship portion, and 3-4 decks tall for the cargo pod. But it could be as much as a 3m window - in which case, you'd be looking at 6+ decks in that pod...

I think that this game intended for Silouette 4 ships to be freighters and for Silouette 5 ships to be transports, but then they named the Wayfarer a freighter, so...

I don't know why, but all I can think of is loading that cargo/hangar up with some really expolsive stuff and using it as a supreme bomb delivery system. It says you can detach the modular unit in the case of smugglers dumping to avoid inspection, so that means "in-flight" release.

You could probably take out Teemo's entire Palace before you leave the planet :)

Or charge much larger ships and release and veer at the last second....boooom!

Now, how to calculate damage?

I dont have the core book yet(or the beta), do they provide any mechanics for spacecraft collisions?

Hmm, no need for explosives even. Just fill it with cheap mass (water, rocks, sand, NPCs) and jettison the pod on a ballistic trajectory. If it has a decent relative velocity at impact it will hit hard!

And that way. It won't even register as a weapon on scanners....

My group is currently using the Wayfarer ship, and I found a great schematic that shows both decks of the crew portion. It was on an obsidian portal and called the Mandalore's Pride. I don't know the artist but it has been perfect for my group. I blew it up to 11x17 and the group has marked their modifications and such. It helps give them a sense of how things are arranged when we have shipboard events.

Not sure how to post photos, but a google image search of mandalore's pride should bring it up.

Never realized how much I like this ship till this post!! So much potential!!!

It's a ship that's closer to the firefly than the YT1300, even though it's based off of the latter.

I really like the ship in concept and even in appearance, but I can't help but feel that this game is rather harsly biased against Silouette 5 ships. The limitations on Maneuvers and the penalties to hit Silouette 3 targets are all pretty harsh.

FWIW, I do suggest house ruling that the Dorsal Quad Laser Cannon is a Dorsal Turret Mounted Quad Laser Cannon with "Fire Arc All" just to help out the poor thing a little.

We did that, and the group also mounted a quad ion turret on the ventral side and a tractor beam to the nose. They set the ship up like a pirate hunting vessel, with a pair of y-wings in the hangar.

What difference would it make, though? Does the game even track where one ship is relative to another? I thought the target simply chose what zone was attacked if it was Sil 4 or smaller.

I'm not sure it makes for a huge difference in rules we have, but there is something reassuring about having a weapon that can fire at targets pusuing you without having to rationalize a big pig like the Wayfarer engaged in dogfighting.

He's just a bit anal-retentive when it comes to certain elements of starships. Not all of them, as he's voiced little displeasure with FFG breaking from established canon in a number of places with certain starships, but just very specific cases.

He's just voicing an opinion. Is there a reason you keep attacking him?
