Cluster Missiles and the new FAQ

By pitsch, in X-Wing

With the new FAQ, Cluster Missiles got an infusion of steroids. The FAQ now gives you the ability to kill 2 ships in one turn. When you fire you first volly of missiles and miss, by either blanks or opponents evades, you can now invoke gunner/Luke. Before, there was arguments about wording, Gunner/Luke says you may not perform another attack this turn, but Cluster states "perform the attack twice." This makes it seems this is 2 attacks. The FAQ also says if you kill the enemy ship in volly 1, you cannot use the 2nd vs another ship. With Gunner/Luke attack you attack another ship with 3-4 die. If your lucky, you take out that ship, return to the first ship and fire your 2nd volly. This allows you, if lucky, to kill 2 ships in one turn.

This new FAQ changes and clarifies a few things. Another big change, Dark Curse makes deadeye useless vs him and the new Blaster Turret cannot target him because you must spend a focus to use the attack, which his PA says your cannot.

Deadeye is not totally useless vs. Dark Curse. You can still fire Homing Missiles at DC because the Homing Missile does not require you to spend the Focus token to fire it. However you can't use that same Focus to modify the die roll for the shot.

You don't need deadeye against dark curse at all. You can use a target lock too, you just can't modify the attack with the TL.

Well The whole point of Deadeye is that you can use Focus (which is way more flexible) to get off your ordnance. That being said it was always clear you can't use Deadeye against Dark Curse. For the new blaster turret it's a pity but there will be other targets for you to shoot. Dark Curse is pretty good I have played him as the 8th ship in an 8 Tie Swarm and he has not disappointed me once...

I am still not entirely sure if I got it right. I read the FAQ too but that is not 100% clear to me either.

SO the way you say it works is:

Fire Cluster Missiles shot 1 -> Miss

-> Invoke Luke/Gunner (since you missed) and probably kill something with it

->Take 2nd shot of cluster missiles and probably kill something with it.

Do I get that right?

This is possible because you as the active player decide in which order to resolve effects, right? Sounds okay as an interpretation for me. Sure a reason to play them on a Falcon or Firespray now if that's true. But no huge thing for all other concerns. Huge steroid, well...

This was an error....Gunner/Luke does not allow a second die roll for the Cluster Missile if you use the Gunner/Luke abilities after the first CM roll.

Hello X-Wing players!

I unfortunately made an error in the FAQ concerning the question:

Q: If a ship using Cluster Missiles misses with the first attack and then triggers Gunner/Luke Skywalker, can it still perform the remaining attack granted by Cluster Missiles?

A: Yes.

The answer should be "No." We'll post an updated version of the FAQ as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

And the cluster missiles have to be fired at the same target.
