Character help please

By Inquisitor Kleeves, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I realy hope this isn't a repeat post. But I'm working on making a Mind Ceansed Guardsman(PDF) that has gone threw the Transformative surgery that the Dark Angels used on Luther and the older Knights of the Order. I was going to replace some of the mind cleansed bonuses with some of the Space Marine organs that would be most reasonable. Any ideas would be appriceated thanks.

I have nearrowed it down to these organs: Occulube and Lyman's ear, larraman's organ, catalepsean node, oolotic kidney Neuroglottis, and sus-an membrane. I'm going to try to look deeper into the book to see if i can rule out more of them.

The sus-an membrain is off because it would require special Space Marine training to use. The character is handed over to an inquisitor, and thus does not get the training.

I'm thinking that anougher tool i could use is to reduce some of the effects from these organs because the character would not have the organs that provide the Space Marines strength, toughness, and speed.

I don't know if i should trade out some of the abilities of the mind cleansed origin for the effects of the Occulube and Lymans ear, larramans organ, catalepseam node, oolotic kidney, and neuroglottis. Several of the abilities can be nerfed. Anougher option could be an experience cost. but i don't know what the cost should be.

Hey!

I am afraid I am not very good with balancing so I wouldn't know what to suggest...

But! I would advise making this background package.

Of course, it would cost the full 400 EXP, as it has the potential to be damned good and should completely take up a starting characters experience.

Now, you can choose to go all out with it and have it +10 to these particular stats, with an equivalent cost in Insanity and Corruption, maybe 3d10 & 3d5 Respectively, or lower these to +5 to the stats with a smaller penalty.

Increasing the characters size one category is both beneficial and a detriment, so that sort of balances out. As for the other organs, I am not sure what they do in the first place, so I am afraid I can't contribute much to that particular discussion.

I would say though that, at the end of the day, these upgrades should be "heretical" and treated as mutations in terms of Taboo and other, non-radical inquisitors finding out about them.

Great thanks! For this works for my chapter also. They were started by a Fallen who loyal to the Emporer and the civilians they were supposed to protect. He tied to get as many civilians out of harms way from crazed madmen who betrayed their Lord and their responsibility, and vengence blinded brothers so hell bent on destroying their traitor brothers, that they destroyed that whitch they loved.

These are the organs i'm looking at and their affects; occulube and lymans ear-hightened senses sight and hearing +10 on relavent awarness tests; Larraman'd organ-do not suffer bloodloss; catalepsaen Node-suffer no penalties to preception based tests for staying awake long periods of time; Oolotic kidney you may re roll any failed toughness tests to resist poisons and toxens (debuffed to not include attacks of same types); Neuroglothis-you may detect any poisom or toxin by taste with a succesful awarnes test.(debuffed to not include taste n' track). So I don't think i have any organs there that require anougher to opperate, or any that give a Space Marine their toughness, strength, or speed. It says in the Dark Angel Codex that even though Luther and those like him were not as strong fast or tough. They still stood as brothers amongst the 1st Legion.

Oh and to boost my problems possily...the chapter responsible for the changes has the oversensitive occulobe causing total dark to be low light. low light is full light. If helm is removed in fullight conditio-10 to awerness tests. (found in Deathwatch Rites of batle page 20)

The easiest (though perhaps not the most satisfying) solution would be to just approximate the SM organs with a bunch of appropriate Talents. The reasoning for this could be, the organs in question rebel against the procedure inflicted and don't work at full capacity. Less flavorful, easier to balance.

Thats a good one to...i like the the 3d10 for insanity. but the genes of the dark angels are one of the purest. Anougher way of the talent method is that. with out the full set up to support it, it has a reduced effect. Deffrent method same resault thanks for the tip.

So i put down Die Hard for bleed resistance, Light Sleeper for the sleep boost, the Hightened senses sight and hearing, i just left the 2 effects for poison and toxins with what i had already nerfed them with. I took a better look at the Deathwatch character sheet and found Die Hard. So I fixed that one. And Light sleeper makes sense. Theres not much i could do to the sensses. So 3d10 Ip and the Talents listed...more or less than 400 exp?

It shouldn't break anything ;)

Well thats good. Thanks for the input, I have been going back and forth on this character for a while. Trying to mix portions of three diffrent factions into one. I still believe Luther and those like him in the Dark Angels legion were even closer to space marines. But the defferance there is that they were given the same amount of training as the rest of the legion when possible. So for doing this for a Transformative surgery SM i would remove the organ effects not listed. but keep the same skills. and maybe upgrade something for the characters past. Oh and you could most likely keep those effects that require SM training because that type of patient was ment to be with the SM. This character is given to an Inquisitor before recieving such training.
