Intentional Overlapping

By JazzyJ, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello all!

Disclaimers: I did perform a search, but did not find an answer to the below question. I apologize if this is a repeat or a question addressed in rules somewhere that I didn't catch.

Situation: I was playing against a friend recently and found that against the YT, one could very easily intentionally one's ships into the YT's path in order to prevent the YT from performing any actions, or navigating to an intended destination. Through this tactic, one could prevent the YT from achieving a target lock, or ever orienting the YT's base to fire a missile. This seemed unsportsmanlike, but I could see the argument that it is the best advantage the Empire has, as most of it's ships are flimsier and more poorly armed than the Rebels.

Question: Is it against game rules to intentionally create situations in which ships bases will overlap? Is it against game rules to repeatedly collide with the same ship?

Thanks!

You need to set up an escort for those larger ships if a regular opponent does this.

Make sure you focus his vulnerable ship that is playing chiken with yours, acting as a speed bump. He only has so many ships to do this with and if he's having to throw more speedbumps at your ships, he's more than likely on the losing end of the battle.

Conentrate fire. Out maneuver. Perhaps keeping a ship you think he's going to try and pull that on a lot pulled back so he'd have to run the gauntlet of your other ships to even have a chance of holding it up.

The tactic is generally referred to as "blocking" and is not only legal, but actively pursued by almost everyone.

To deal with it with the Falcon, don't bother with missiles - take advantage of the turret to make a lot of unpredictable (and fast) moves.

Awesome! Thanks guys! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't against the rules. I wouldn't want to ruin people's games by executing a maneuver that's against the rules.

I use "intentional overlapping" (or blocking) all the time with my 8-TIE swarm in order to deny actions to my opponent's ships.

THERE'S...TOO MANY OF THEM!!!

Has anyone else ever thought that the pilot who said that line looked and sounded just like George Takei?

Theres a new upgrade card coming out with the Lambda-Class Shuttle called Anti-Pursuit Lasers, and its exactly for the strategy that you speak of, its for large ships only and its a modification. Basicly you block and opponent, and he crashes into you, and it shoots lasers at them. Its pretty dang awesome.

P.S. forgive me, im sure most of you have seen this card already, im just putting it out there for anyone who doesnt know or hasn't seen the previews yet.

Doesn't that card only work if they run into you, not if they block you and you run into them?

Exactly the opposite. It gives a chance to damage when someone runs into the ship with the Anti-Pursuit Lasers.

I think that is what i was trying to say. If Ship A has the APL equipped it only fires if Ship B crashes into it, not if A crashes into B. So TIE swarms intentionally flying in front of a falcon with it wouldn't be getting shot at and the falcon still loses the action. At least that is how I was reading the card.

Ah, yeah, sorry, misread his point. Been a rough day :(
