Can you fire a pistol on (semi)auto-fire in melee?

By The Laughing God, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

I think you can't, but I don't know where in the book it says so!

That's probably because it doesn't say so anywhere in the book, or the errata for that matter. And I can't think of a good reason why you shouldn't be able to.

Yes you can. There are a couple threads here about it further down. If you fire on semi/auto however, you cannot aim, and you do not get a range bonus for firing on semi/auto in melee.

Once upon a time there was a thread on a forum somewhere by an official-type person that said there would be no firing of semi or full auto in melee combat, Many people saw it but no one remembers where and the only link that could be found about it led nowhere. There is another thread about it on the next page. I figure since it cant be found, it is not a real rule, so blast away.

Like others said, it isnt in the book or the errata

Where does it say you cannot aim before a semi- or full auto burst? If the action that follows immediately after an aim action is an attack you gain the benefit of aim. It doesn't say that it has to be a standard attack action, like with feint, it just says that "the attack must follow immediately otherwise the benefit of Aiming are lost."

Correct. You can aim and burst. The only problem with that is bursting is a full action so if you want to aim you have to wait until the following round to gain its benefits. And if you are in the middle of melee combat, waiting to shoot might not be wise. But you are allowed to do it.

Indeed. And also, as I've understood it, if you dodge or parry anytime between your aim and your attack, the aim bonus is lost, since the action immediately following the aim is then, in fact, not an attack.

You cannot aim and burst in the same round as bursting is a full round action. Apologies for not clarifying before I was dogpiled by the geek nation happy.gif

*edit*

technically, aren't dodges and parries re-actions? so if you aim, then dodge, then shoot, shooting is technically the next action you take.

From the Core Rulebook, p. 188: "A Reaction is an Action that is made..." It couldn't be any more clear that a reaction (Dodge, parry) count as an action.
