Raleigh, NC

By bobafett4ever, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hello. Just looking to see if anyone plays around Raleigh, NC. I know there are a few gaming stores in the area, but stopping by them I didn't see this game being played. Although one store did carry the game, and had it in-stock, they have nothing set up as regular play on their calendar.

Thanks :)

I am a student at State and looking for someone to play! Are you near the NC State campus?

Every Monday night starting at 6pm, there is a group of 5 of us that meet up at Game Theroy off of rt 1that plays till they close..... We do a normal 100 point standard game and are looking to hold a tournament and or league starting maybe at the end of October.

I'm in the Raleigh/Durham area and would be interested in playing as well. I'll have to checkout Game Theory soon. Don't think I can make it tonight though.

It's cool we play there every Monday, the group lead runs demo for new player and for anyone interested in maybe getting into the game.

Is the Monday at GT thing still going strong? With two kids with activities I find it hard to align my free time with the various local stores' game nights. But I am free every other Monday.

Elsewhere, having been in the area a long time, I know Atomic Empire in Durham does X-Wing on Tuesdays. I swung by Hangar 18 in Cary and they are flexible but their main guy is there tuesdays (I think H18 has an inconvenient close time, though). I still need to check with Gamers Armory in Cary, whose minis game night is Tuesdays. Tuesday is my absolute worse day because that's Cub Scout night and I'm an asst. leader.

There's also my friends store Endless Gaming on Hillsborough St (immediately across from entrance to Meredith Coll., just down from Waffle House). A brand new store, Event Horizon, just opened in walking distance of my house - EH is inside edge of Raleigh near Garner just off US 401 (Garner Station shopping center).

Game Connection in Knightdale recently closed so bummer there. All Fun and Games in Cary has had a recent shift in management and literally jettisoned all support for minis gaming, so bummer there. And to the southeast a tad in Four Oaks is Reimann Books and Games - haven't been there yet but will be going next weekend for something else, so will check on their X-Wing "scene."

Yes, there literally is 8+ gaming stores in the Triangle Area. You'd think that would be awesome, but it actually fractionalizes and factionizes the player base into a whole bunch of smaller mini-metas... :(

I play at Game Theory all the time, but with my work schedule, Mondays and Tuesdays are a no go for me. I really wish there was something going on later in the week.

I am trying to drum up interest at Event Horizon, so you should call the store and tell them you are interested and what nights are best.

My friend Chris (who is a lurker here) and I met up with mwf and farseer last night at EHG. Looks like they got in a few good games. Chris and I played 2 BH's and 2 academy ties vs Han, a b wing, and the old crow. Excellent game with a badly damaged BH as the only ship left standing. Good times.

I think mwf and the owner of EHG are trying to work out a regular x-wing night.

Mondays are very strong at GT come out and see us, we've grown to about 10 regular Monday nighters

If you all use the meetup.com app the game Theroy meetup group is where we started our xwing meet up group

It was cool meeting you guys at Event Horizon in Garner last week. It's also great to see rising interest in the area for this great game. I'm looking forward to getting some games in with y'all soon.

Just a reminder, tonight Monday the 14th. Game Theroy is starting a tournament for xwing that will start at 530 or 6 pm for any that wanna come out the more we get the more the store owners will put down in store credit as the prize

I'd love to, but Mondays and Tuesdays are the absolute worst nights of the week for me. If there was any way to move the X-wing events to later in the week I'd attend them but I can't make Monday nights with my work schedule.

Not sure I can make it out there this evening, but what are the details about this tournament? On the GT meetup site I only saw that there was an x-wing demo out there tonight. No mention of a tournament. I haven't played any x-wing tournaments before, but it sounds like they're usually a minimum of 3 games. That seems like it would be a lot to try and fit into a single evening.

Is the weekend good for people to play at event horizons? Say saturday or sunday afternoons?

The meetup app states demo for any new players or people that wanna see what it's all about we all meet up that same night for regular games and the tournaments...... The tournament is spaced over a two week period...... Just come out to game theroy on a Monday and ill always be there normally starts at 6 but I get there about 4 ish, our lead gets there about 430ish to set up the demo but we all play 100 point games till they close. Also the guys at GT are looking to plan a all nighter for xwing sometime in the near future. If you come out do put your name and email on our sign up sheet so you'll get all of our updates

I will be at Event horizon on sunday afternoon/ night if people want to play!

At EHG today (Saturday) until maybe 7.

Looking at maybe Mondays at event horizon games. Is that time good for others that go there?

Anyone in Raleigh going to be around during the holidays and looking for games?

We've got about 5 "regulars" trying to grow a group on Monday nights at Event Horizon games. What inevitably ends up happening is that 2 can't make it don't show and we are stuck with 3.

I know there are groups that play at Game Theory, Gamers Armory, and Atomic Empire. While most of the time I'm sure the players who play regularly at those store will want to continue to do that, I think it would be great if we could get the community communicating to facilitate more X Wing gaming. So that way if your regular store looks to have a lean showing anticipated you could switch gears and play at another store, or a night may come free other then your local league night and it would be nice to know if someone in town is also looking for a game that night.

So what's the best way to do that? These forums are full of lots of other topics. Facebook and Meetup really don't seem ideal and store forums may not be the right place either. So with that I created a free forum to try and give Raleigh-Durham a place we can organize. If it works, great. If not, nothing lost. The key to making it work though will be to get a couple of us signed up, using it and encouraging others in our area to do the same.

So here is the site: http://www.roguesquadronraleigh.freeforums.org Hope this becomes a tool that our community uses to connect and to get in more games of X Wing!

Are there any players that still go to Event Horizon games? I've been there a few times and I've not seen the 5 "regulars" mentioned.

New player, long time gamer. Just getting into x-wing miniatures and looking for any locals in the Raleigh-Durham area. Message me if interested in connecting.
