I know that this is a stupid question but I have not been playing long.

How do heroes recover health between fights ( different encounters) during down time?

Please let me know as soon as you can!

Between encounter one and two, they don't. If they where defeated, they stand up without using an action and roll their allotted dice. They do recover all fatigue.

If severly wounded at the end of encounter 1, the presence of a Disciple and his Prayer of Healing helps a lot at the beginning of encounter 2, where he will proceed - or, if Avric (IIRC), his heroic feat can heal about everybody - as the beginning of the encounter.
