Affiliation Flavors/Mechanics

By RockSoldier, in Star Wars: The Card Game

Hi,

After the Core Set and first Force Pack, I posted a question asking what the general flavor or mechanics for the different affiliations were.

I compared it to the color wheel for Magic the Gathering, and how the different colors have different strategies or ways that they play. For example, red is more direct damage, white prevents damage and heals, and blue is card drawing and counter spells (I think, I'm no MTG expert).

Now that the first Deluxe Expansion (EoD) and a number of Force Packs have been released, what is the general consensus about the different affiliation flavors/mechanics?

I have everything that has been released so far but have not played a game yet, so I am looking to see what affiliation(s) would match my general play style.

Thanks.

Interesting question. From what I've seen so far here are the basics each faction provides:

LS

Rebels: Good at attacking and being aggressive. Great cheap units that do damage. Very hard to hold the force, as no units have more than 3 force icons.

Jedi: Great at holding the force and using a few very powerful units to wreak havoc across the board.

Smugglers: Best at messing with the mechanics of the game by moving tactics icons and doing other tricks. A lot of good attacking units, too.

DS

Navy: Best to play very aggressive. Many huge ships that can destroy objectives in 1 turn if played right. Some good force units, but overall aggressive.

Sith: Similar to Jedi, but stronger at controlling the board. Lots of tactics icons to take opponent's heavy hitters out of the action.

Scum: Capturing cards is its M.O. Best to capture cards and take them out of play. Not great with the force, but lots of tricks up its sleeve.

Thank you for the explanation of what each affiliation is good and bad at. It was really useful.

yes, that helped a lot. thanks.

does anyone have anything more to add, or different thoughts on it?

Rebels are also decent on shielding and taking advantage of shielded units. The Sith are easily the best affiliation at holding the Force. I think that the rest is fairly accurate.

Rebels are also decent on shielding and taking advantage of shielded units.

the navy is quickly approaching, possibly surpassing, the rebels in shielding. there is now alot of shielding the navy can do and its just going to increase with the next force pack.

Sageleader pretty much summed it up there. It's neat how each Affiliation plays a little differently and even then you can break the normal mode of play for each Affiliation every now and then depending on the situation.

I will also add that these "flavors" will likely change slightly with each force pack. Eventually we'll get a Rebel Luke and Rebel Han is coming in the next month or two. So it's very possible that some of the weaknesses of each set will be reinforced with new packs.
