Rebel Squad Advice

By PenguinBonaparte, in X-Wing

Hi all. Just getting started and was wondering what you think of this possible loadout. Would it be generally effective or mostly just good for trolling the other player?

Dutch (23) + Ion turret (5) + generic R2 (1) to make 2 maneuvers greens

Biggs (25) + R2D2 (4) so I can get back 1 shield each turn.

2x Rookie X-Wings (21 each)

My thought would be to keep Dutch and Biggs together to either break up a swarm or formation and ionize some people, and possibly break off with the two rookies to follow ionized ships or targets of opportunity. Or I could throw in a souped up Wedge and some torps instead of the 2 rookies. Does that sound like a good group? Thanks!

*edit: I've also got 2 a-wings coming, so could substitute prototypes with missiles for the rookies as well.

Looks pretty solid. Dutch and Biggs are great support units.

good squad but R2D2 on Biggs is not as good as you think. Sometimes he will go down in one turn even.

I have two ways i run Biggs. The one is with R2D2 and shield upgrade so at least he has one hitpoint more and might at least gain a turn and a free shield.

The better way might be with the other droid that gives him a point of agility for an action. Combine that with a Stealth device. 4 Agility or 3 after you lose a hitpoint is perhaps better than R2.

Combine that with Garven and you have a focus token. That way you protect the rest of your force while flying formation. When biggs finally goes down you hopefully have a serious advantage. Dutch is nice, but Garven is betetr and cheaper in this case if you take my advice.

Huh, well it was less about the alpha strike than the idea that the turret could also help cover Biggs as the first pass breaks up and the ties start to take advantage of their maneuverability. Then because he'd be staying close to Dutch he'd be doing green moves more often anyway. Is that situation not likely to be common enough?

I really think after the first pass you won't have Biggs anymore unless you really invest into supporting him. That was the idea i had with the other droid, stealth and Garven Dreis. I don't know if Dutch offers what you need for this squad,

Also An X-Wing will stay in formation with other X-Wings more easily than with Dutch who will want to stay out of arcs and harass. If you leave Biggs wih him even if he survives first pass, Biggs will probably never get a shot again if you fly the Y-WIng the way he needs to fly...

I would consider protecting your whole squad with Biggs as long as you can and make him a really difficult target.

If you want an Ion cannon at all costs consider this list perhaps:

Garven Dreis + R2 27

Rookie 21

Biggs + R2F2 29

Gold Squadron + Ion Cannon 23
