"Soundtracking" your games... turn on the radio!

By Josep Maria, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I find soundtracking kind of distracting... esp now that we play online. However, I do use "Stabs" for this campaign. They are key pieces of music to represent something. All of these are recongniseable parts of the soundtrack and are only about 5-10 seconds.

- Time for Initiative

- End of Combat

- Triumph Rolled

- Dispair Rolled (or Triumph by NCPs)

- Transitional

- End of Adventure Session

I would try to explain what bits I used, but it would be hysterically pathetic. It is best just to say pick slices of music that mean those things for you... and keep em short. These are played loud so they JUMP out.

I thought there was a music tool for Rolld20 or Google+?

The one in Roll20 uses a website that has like submitted music... so you end of with some hystercial Rock Star Wars Theme... or a Chemical Brothers type remix of the Imperial March. I hate it and do not use it. I just play it on my computer. My players can hear.

I have a (glances sternly at phone) well-trained Pandora channel that's mostly SW music. I never play music at the table, but it's good for creative juices. I've a similar one for Howard Shore's LOTR stuff for fantasy.

You really have to beat those channels within an inch of their lives to keep them on track.

I have the soundtracks for all 6 movies on que in my laptop and would select tracks according to the situation. I would also play with the volume, like, if the players are in a cantina, i would have the catina band track alittle louder if the players start talking to each other to make it alittle difficult when talking amoungs themselves...like a real bar! I would use this sort of tactic sparingly ofcourse because it could get annoying real quick! ;)

yesh, I've been meaning to rip all my SW and LotR CDs, but I've been lazy had other priorities.
