Fan Made Species Sheets

By Drig, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all!

I came across Donovon Morningfire and Cyril's Species Menagerie and thought they did great work. Now that the book is out, I thought I'd use my skills to throw together an Unofficial Species sheet for your players to see as an option for a new species.

All the fluff is written by me and is based from The New Essential Guide to Alien Species by Margaret Lewis and Helen Keier, which is a great resource for Star Wars fans. The layout, background, and art is all done by me. Hopefully I don't piss anybody off with this.

Just wanted something high quality and since I made it, I'm assuming I can throw it out to you.

This Sheet is The Duros. Stats are exactly like Donovon Morningfires and Cyril's since I think they nailed the Duros.

Enjoy! Also if you wonderful gamers like it, I'll try and keep this up!

Very cool! Well done :)

Hmm, PDF didn't come out clean. For some reason it is posterized. Maybe a side effect of Google Docs. Need to find alternative...

I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like, but it looks pretty cool from where I'm sitting. There's a sort of cloudy effect in the background, is that not intended?

There we go, switched to dropbox. Fixed the issue!

Pretty cool.

If you're planning on doing such "species sheets" for all the entries that we created, I applaud your efforts given how many species we did write-ups for.

I'm the process of updating a few things to make the mechanical aspect of the species descriptions match up with how the core rulebook presented them, but one thing that I think Cyril and I both agree on is that we're not going to try and add any fluff text (especially as a link to the species' Wookieepedia article is included).

One thing I would ask is that if you're using our work from the Unofficial Species Menagerie, a small byline to credit our work with a direct mention of the person responsible for the EotE conversion would be very much appreciated. A link to the GSA article would also be cool as well.

I don't have a problem with that. When I set out to do this, I thought I'd try coming up with my own species stats. As I was working on Duros, I started to realize that I was making the same decisions you made. I'm not sure if I will always use the unofficial species menagerie stats however.

I did want to mimic they style of the book as well as the species art. Well see how far I go with this. The art is the part that will take the most effort and time. I mainly want to focus on those species that fit the fringe careers of edge.

Did you draw that Duros? It looks great, I really like it.

Yup. It's free to use because I made it lol. There's more in my signature. I haven't been drawing for about a year and I thought I'd jump back in.

Awesome stuff Drig! I love, love, love the Besalisk and the Gand!

Really hoping to see more of these.

Great job! Keep them coming!

I'd like to contribute to this project, as well, as I have also stated in the Menagerie thread.

Really great work, thanks a million.

Great work.

Very nice-looking sheet. Good choice of species, too...I've felt like the Duros really could have had a place in the EOTE core book.

Yes i like this. Keep going I want more.

Dude, @Drig this is amazing work. I am officially one of your hangers on.

omg that looks so amazing... you should pool your talents with the species menagerie book people and merge these together. That would make for one very killer resource guide for us to use.

Also, do the Vong please someday. My favorite Star Wars species. :) (if you ever get around to doing it).

Looks great!

Thanks for all the feedback!

I'm working on the gran. I've given them 3 Cunning, 1 Wisdom, and 1 free rank in perception. I was thinking of giving them one free rank in a career skill to represent that the whole species is generally raised and trained into a career that they are talented in. What do you people think?

I've never bought that the whole species is good at aiming a weapon seeing as the species is always regarded as peaceful and their perception only is really valuable at seeing extra wavelengths and colors and some emotions among Grans.

My aim is to make every species I design to be appealing and also to make sense.

Love the work! Do you do commissioned work? My game consists of a Wookie with two cybernetic arms(Matukia), two squib outlaw tech/Gadgeteers(Grey Paladins), a midget Quermian & a rather tall Xexto (known as the Twins, Zieson sha), and a Corelian(Aang tii). All have FR1 though none of them plan on picking up a lightsaber, rather they prefer discblades, pole arms and blasters.

Visually these are great.. the only problem I have is that several of the species have official stats now. Duros will be in Enter the Unknown, and are currently in the Age of Rebellion beta as are the Gran. I would prefer if the official stats/abilities are used.

Haha well that's why I killed my personal project haha. First species I write up is Duros and the next is gran than I hear about the age of rebellion beta! I'm not needed! If I think of another personal project to contribute, I will but I'm more of an artist. Also seeing the explosion of the unofficial species menagerie kind of made me nervous to contribute now.

First off, beautiful work. It looks wonderful, and I'm shocked by the amazing quality that you yourself put into the work. Bravo, my friend. Bravo.

Secondly, however, I notice that you first made a Duros, and are now making a Gran. These are both in AoR, which means that both sheets might end up obsolete when AoR comes out on hardcover and more people own it. I'd suggest next working on more mainstream species, like you're doing, but also to do species not yet officially decided.

Not trying to be discouraging, though. You're doing wonderfully. Keep up the good work!

EDIT: I hate it when I post before reading all of the thread.

You know, if it happens that certain species have undesirable stats (I've noticed that Sullustans are a subject of discussion about wanting it to have straight twos, and it sounds to me from what you said that Gran might have strange skills) you could do re-rights with skills based on popular design. I can think of several specific human cultures that could do with write ups, such as Mandalorians.

Then there's also secondary and below races, like the Selkath (from KotOR). Those guys were cool, but since they eventually went primitive and were enslaved, and since they're not as popular, I doubt they'd get their own write up. Selkath, among other races, would be good choices for those who want them.

And really, even if they already are written up in official books, you still make good pictures of them. Keep it up.
