Q: military loss, deadly and save/cancel responses

By pja, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello,

a verification/clarification is needed.

Situation #1

Attacker wins military challenge with 1 deadly character, defender has 0 deadly.

If the participating defending character is chosen to satisfy the claim, then deadly has no target in passive step and char dies from claim.

But...

Situation #2

Same as above, but the defender holds e.g. Risen from the Sea event card:

Response: Save a House Greyjoy character from being killed. Then attach this card to the saved character (counts as a Condition attachment with the text 'Attached character gets +1 STR.')

then we're not sure if our interpretation is correct:

Framework Action Window goes:
1. Framework event initiates
2. Save/cancel responses to framework event
3. Framework event resolves
4. Passive abilities (now triggered) are resolved
5. Responses
6. End of Action

Military claim happens in 1.
Risen from the Sea happens in 2. so character doesn't enter moribound as a result of a claim.
Deadly kicks in at 4 and the character still has to die, just now it is from deadly instead of claim?

In order to save defending character, defender would have to play another Risen as a save/cancel response to deadly@4?

Is this the correct interpretation of the steps?

That's correct, you must save the character from each separate effect that tries to kill them. You seem to have a full grasp of the situation.

Thanks! :)
