Looks fun. Practice just flying these in formation and taking turns and banks and koiograns. I think you'll have a bit of trouble bumping into each other because the differing skill level will dictate who you have to move first. I always try as much as to use similar skill level pilots if doing swarm formations so I can choose who to move first in order to avoid collisions with friendly ships.

May I suggest taking more stealth devices on key ships if you have the points and also throwing Expose on Mauler, that gives him 5 attack dice at range 1 with a re-roll if Howlrunner is supporting him.

I agee with stormtrooper, when you play 5 or more ships the key point is to have as much same pilot levels as you can to be able to move without trubles..

I made the exact same list the other day but never flew it. You can fly Backstabber on a flank to get his bonus which will make it only 5 ships to try and maneuver. I always spin my dials in order of lowest to highest PS to avoid any self inflicted collisions. I have never flown a swarm but would not like to come up against that one in the hands of a good player.

I tried it at my LGS this evening during the weekly X-Wing night they've started I played against a four X-wing build with Wedge w/ swarm tactics, Garvin, and 2 Rookie X-wings. I sent Back Stabber & Dark Curse up my left flank as my opponent was keeping all his x-wings in a tight formation coming down on my right. Gundark and Night Beast were up front and close behind was Mauler & Howlrunner, Night Beast got killed first from some serious focus fire. and gundark was down to his last hit point. Once Mauler and howlrunner got in range 2 with some shooting, managed bring a rookie down to 1 hit point. and Stripped Garvin of his shields. Gundark managed to pop off his card ability on the next round and put a crit on garvin bringing his pilot skill down to zero I think it was. Managed to kill Wedge with both Mauler and Back stabber pulling there card abilities off for the extra attack dice for each, Howllrunner got nailed by garvin & the surviving rookie x-wing. by the end of it all. 4 X-wing shot down for the loss of Howlrunner, Night Beast, and Winged Gundark, the other 4 Tie Fighters had 1-2 damage cards. I will be playing this list a lot more often I had a good time playing it.

I find what helped is grouping them according to pilot skill 5s stick together, 6s stick together and Mauler and Howlrunner being the highest I flew them where I thought they might be needed. Not to mention Howlrunner always attracts a lot of attention so having her bait rebels in, & going for her. Then having Mauler & back stabber maneuver in for a close range shot on Wedge which resulted in a pretty sweet kill, really stuck with me I'm gonna be playing this list a lot more in the near future.

I recommend you guys try it out, I don't consider myself a great player, but I didn't find maneuvering to be an issue,

Sounds like you had a great time, Ex-wing. I'll have to give it a try. :)

It's a fun list. Early on we called it "TIE All-Stars," but it has a lot of different names. Before Stealth Device "Howlrunner" was often equipped with Swarm Tactics or Squad Leader, and I liked to put Determination on "Mauler Mithel."

If I am not mistaken this is one of the most popular build for the Imps. I have run this since the beginning. Its my main Imp winning squad. Parakitor is right on his statements.
