Electronic locks and skills...

By TalkingMuffin, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Skulduggery mentions that you might have to use Skulduggery, Computers or both, but when? I can get how a mechanical lock would require Skulduggery and a mainly electronic one would use Computers, but when would it require both? Also, would you make two rolls or use the lower skill pool?

Remember in Return of the Jedi when Han Solo and Leia are covering R2-D2 while the astromech droid tried to break into the Imperial base? R2 is doing alright until he gets nailed by blaster fire. Han says, as he breaks open a panel and starts to fiddle with the circuitry, "well, I guess I can still Hotwire this thing".

I think maybe that's a case where R2-D2 was using Computers to work with the default interface, and then Han resorted to Skulduggery.

And I imagine you would use whichever dice pool is better.

More like rolled a Despair and failed the check. Good thing Chewie's player was there with his stolen AT-ST to enable Han to use his presumably better Deception skill.

Han's Deception skill got a lot better between A New Hope and Return of the Jedi.

Very good point!

I'd hope so since he'd been with the Rebellion for 4 years by the time of RotJ.
