GM suggestions please post Escape from Mos Shuuta

By SteelePhoenix, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So ran my experienced group of gamers through the Escape from Mos Shuuta and at the end a twist I wasn't expecting happened. They actually managed to capture Trex as part of the escape. I gave out experience, with an extra 5 for his capture, but said we would get into the Trex situation next time... which happens to be this coming Sunday (the 21st).

So I was hoping to get ideas and thoughts from the more experienced GMs (I am newb at running things). So my general idea was Trex has a bounty on his head, from a Hutt on Tatooine. To collect they will need to drop him off in person when they come back to Tatooine. Then after a further 2 or 3 sessions bring Trex and some lizardbreath buddies back for some revenge. Hopefully set him up as a recurring nemesis.

I am currently planning to run the followup to Escape posted online named Long Arm of the Hutt. So Trex will be cooling his heels either in the ship or at the hands of some Twileks that don't take kindly to slavers...

So any other ideas for Trex's hide?

What you already have sounds good. You're responding well to the curve balls your players are throwing you, and that makes it so that you're really working well with what they're giving you. Borrowing some ideas from Sly Flourish who has self published a really good DM's toolkit for D&D games, as well as something called the Lazy DungeonMaster, he asks some questions that you can start to build your next session with.

1. Where does the adventure begin?

2. What three places could your players go? Trust me, they might not go where you want to go.

3. What have three important NPCs been up to? This would include Trex who is cooling his heels... He could also be planning too, or even activating a contingency to bust him out before delivery - up to you.

If you're interested in his stuff, and it is very translatable to EotE, you can buy it at rpgnow:

If they took any of the security droids along for ride, as my group did, Trex could get one of them to free him.

Then remember there are all manner of trophy weapons scattered thru out the ship, ceremonial and functional.

He would be out for blood.

Thanks for that link. I will definitely check that out.

I like the idea that Trex has a bounty on his head, but I'd also consider some other possibilities. For example, Trex might have a family member or lover who wants to rescue him, or perhaps he is a member of a secret society that needs to find out if he has divulged any of their secrets during his captivity. Since he's a renowned wookie hunter, maybe there's a wookie who's sworn to hunt him down and kill him in single combat - and therefore is a potential antagonist to the PCs as well as a potential future ally.

I think the biggest thing is to make sure that there is something that you can use no matter what happens with Trex. That gives the players the freedom to do what they like - kill Trex, release him, turn him in, or whatever, and then their decision will have real consequences in the game.

Definitely have ideas for each of Trex's possible fates.

Any outcome where Trex lives could easily set him up as a recurring nemesis. If he is turned over to the Hutts you may have some. Creative explaining about how he got loose again, but just knowing that he did should put a chill down your players' spines...

If Trex dies then someone could easily come after the players for revenge.

If he remains with them, then a rescue attempt is possible. I like the Wookie bent on revenge idea. I also like the idea that Trex has something or some information that somebody else wants. This could make a great complication if that somebody else wants to keep it secret.

SteelePhoenix,

I wrote an adventure, "Hunters and Hunted," that can connect Trex (and the Imperial Lieutenant) to a hunting lodge on Rodia, one with illicit ties to the Empire, a Core-world noble and others. This could provide some allies who are interested in aiding him. Have a look if you want.

That is a great adventure there. I will definitely be using this once they are done with Long Arm. Will even tie the Sullustan in when they return to face Temo.

I am definitely down with the Wookie idea. My players made a long term contact with the traffic controller in Mos Shutta. So I think I will use her to drop a hint about a Wookie looking for them before he pops up. Great idea.

Thank you both very much for the great ideas and leads.
