..counts as a success but can a failure cancel that success? Can you have a triumph activate that isnt a successful roll?... I am referring to non-combat dice rolls.
Thanks!

You roll one success, one triumph and three failure. This is read as "two success, three failures, one triumph". The failures will cancel both success rewards however the BAMF side of the triumph will still take place. You will get something EPIC and AMAZING! Even though you failed...
Check page 23 in the Corebook. It beats around the bush enough that you get the idea.
Edited by kelann08In other words, the answer is yes. A failure symbol will cancel the "success" aspect of a Triumph, but the awesome side-benefit of a Triumph will still occur.
Edited by DylanRPGIt's also worth pointing out, for the record, that Triumph and Despair do not cancel each other out (the Success and Failure portions of those symbols cancel as per normal, but not the special effects).
Here's an example from one of our sessions. we were trying to sneak up on some guards on a construction site. I blew my stealth roll but got a triumph.
We'd already established (through a bit of electrobinocular spying) that these guards were lazy and not very competent. So after a quick chat with the GM, we ruled that I'd completely failed to hide effectively, but that didn't matter because the guard had deserted his post to visit the outhouse, leaving the keys in the ignition of the digger he was sitting in.
Epic fun ensued.
Thank you for the clarification all!

I loved that session, lots of digger fun that literally crashed the cantina :-)
