Stupid question: Advantage = success?

By Desslok, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So tonight I thought I'd try out the combat system, my princess versus a couple of stormtroopers. They got the initiative and I rolled their 2 green and one yellow at short range (so we'll throw a purple die in too). The dice came up thusly:

Greens = two Advantages each for four

Yellow = one Triumph

Purple = blank

Pretty good roll, but no successes in the lot. Reading the rules, the Triumph counts as a success, but do the Advantages count too? Normally I would say "Duh, of course" - but the rulebook specifically says "Each triumph symbol counts also as one success." (page 12) - but the triumphs have no such sentence anywhere in their description.

So does that mean that while a whole bunch of good stuff happens, the poor stormtrooper only gets one success?

That roll would read out 1 success, 4 advantages and 1 triumph.

That is potentially a critical'ed princess you've got there along with whatever you want to spend triumph on. Bummer for her.

Check p.23 "Triumph & Despair," it has the answers you seek good sir penguin.

Cool beans - thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I was looking at entirely the wrong page. And you were right - poor girl got curbstomped in two rounds. I need to go build a combat monster for my next test run. (:

Well, she isn't necessarily dead. Chances are, they were using stun settings to capture her alive, dealing the damage against strain. And even if they weren't, and even if she suffered a couple of critical injuries (one from the triumph/advantages, one from falling below her wound threshold, presuming she did) she might not be dead. Just like, really messed up.

Unless they proceeded to curb stomp her unconscious body. Then she's pretty much SOL.

Advantages are not successes. Just saying it because nobody seems to have said it specifically :)

Yep, advantage/threat is completely independent of success/failure. Only triumph/despair does double-duty.
