My new wombo-combo list (looking for your advice)

The idea is a Rebel list being based around the new blaster turret as it probably will be.

I chose to take the Y-wing to carry it instead of the HWK, since it just has more hitpoints, and is a known factor. We can't exactly know how many points the non-named HWK will cost or if the ship is a reliable carrier for the main damage you will do...

So here the List:

1)Kyle Katarn (29 points total)

-Moldy Crow

-Ion cannon turret

2)Gold Squadron Pilot (22 Points total)

-Blaster Turret

3)Gold Squadron Pilot (22 Points total)

-Blaster Turret

4)Garven Dreis (27 points total)

-R2 Astromech

or

4)Dutch Vander (27 points total)

-Blaster Turret

Total 100 points

As I did not put in the Recon Specialist I therefore went for an ion cannon on Kyle Katarn. The idea also is to keep the enemy from shooting him as he is perceived less a threat. With the ion turret he can set up kills and keep out of trouble while supporting his squad. Also you can spend the first few turns collecting Focus tokens and start dishing them out when the heat comes up while still having one or two for defense or when you don't get an action.

The Golden boys are self-explanatory. Take free focus, do a target lock and blast stuff. Be a huge threat and tanky while being the cheapest ships on your side of the table would be next on their agenda. (i.e. they are your workhorses)

Now Garven fits in because of his free focus for another Y-Wing and of course because he pilots his trusted X-Wing, he can still hurt a lot for himself. R2 helps get rid of the occasional stress of course and be more unpredictable.

Alternatively, Dutch would add yet another Blaster turret, and since he should always target lock, he would be the main customer for Kyle's tokens. One of the Y-WIngs would focus in this case and have a free TL on top.

I have also looked at making lists with Y wing blaster turrets. I was using Dutch with R5-K6 to spit out TLs for the Gold Squadron Y wings who just used focus to activate their blasters, or if nothing was in range then at least they could use their focus for defence or their primary gun. This allowed 3 Y wings with blasters and Dutch with an Ion Cannon. This makes a nice canon correct list as they are all from Gold Squadron. I can see having Kyle would be a benefit as he is another high PS pilot alongside either Dutch or Garven. So it looks a good list. Surely the Moldy Crow is more maneuverable than a Y wing!

It's a very cool concept, i love the ability to shoot everywhere, but i do wonder how it would play out in game. You've got weapons for range 1-2, but range 3 is nearly harmless, while the Y-wings can still be torn up at range 3. Garven Dreis is probably the best help in this squad, as he provides range threat, while also giving focus out. Kyle is probably going to be target #1 though, and he's a little worrisome as he can die very fast...then you've just got 2 y-wings that have to focus to shoot, and so they'll roll 1.5 hits per roll, which isn't ideal to say the least.

I love the idea though, and we can hardly speculate accurately until we see the dials, all the new cards, and get to play with them for a while (experiment)

Well if they target Katarn, they do not target the main damage dealers, and they target at least a ship with 2 agi. Yes you can still be shot at range 3. So i would say go to the infight asap. Unfortunately there are no points left to give someone a torpedo for range 3 threat.

Also even if Kyle or Garven go down the other can still support one of the Y-Wings with a Token. Garven for himself is a threat and Kyle can shoot the ion turret for an occasional damage.

Thanks for the responses. I will experoment with this squad as soon as the stuff will finally get it in order to make it more competitive if possible.

ATTENTION

Well now that some of you guys over the pond have got their wave 3, has anybody experimented with all turret squadrons like this one? I just wanted to open a new thread but i will just bump this old one if mine up to ask you your experiences with this kind of list because i lobe the idea of playing this when my stuff finally arrives in Europe.
