Preset maps with SotT

By gixx, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

Hello!

I'm interested in using the Preset Map variant, but I noticed that it is intended to be used only with the base game + SE.

What if a player wants to use it with SotT?

Also a question: some maps do not have white hexes with blue planets (those representing Abyz/Fria and Bereg/Lirta). Does this mean that they shouldn't be shuffled with multi planet systems or can they be added?

Thanks.

Not sure if they playtested it with SotT, but I think you shouldn't have any problems except for some obvious cases (such as using ghost of Creuss on a multi-galaxy map -- although I think that may make for an interesting game b/c everybody would be bashing them and thus balance them out.)

Yes, if Abyz/Fria and Bereg/Lirta aren't explicitly mentioned on the map, just shuffle them in to the respective planet piles.

I've found that they're perfectly useable with SotE. You may want to consider putting certain systems in the "rich" pile, depending on just how powerful they are.

As for the multi galaxy maps, and creuss...We've used the following house rule to even it out.

Modify the "Other players may not use A or B wormholes to travel into a system you control" rule as follows. Add "This ability does not function in the Lodor or Quann systems". This ensures they cannot turtle into the central system and be untouchable. They are still immune from being attacked within their own galaxy, and they can block access FROM the central system, but there are of course multiple wormholes on either side. If a group allows them to block ALL the wormholes on one side or the other, I'd say that's kind of their fault, and creuss is gonna be that close to winning anyways.
